The cc co can do whatever they want; however, it is to their benefit not to get a collection agency involved. The collection agency keeps at least of what they collect.
Call the cc co and work out something. |

Have you contacted the credit card company and explained your situation? If you ignore the payments, they tend to get cranky. If on the other hand, you try and work with them and at least commit to sending in an amount monthly, then they tend not to turn you over to a collection agency. And you do not want that on your record!!! |

I've been a bill collector for 35 years and every time the customer did not make the minimum payment, I always said, read your contract. |

They can still turn it over to collections. If you are at least attempting to pay though, most judges won't let them obtain a judgment against you. It doesn't stop them from trying though. |

I've seen this rumor posted here several times...it's just not true.
A creditor is not required to accept any payment that is less then the terms agreed to in your contract. Therefore if you do not make a minimum payment, you are in default with the agreement and they have the right to cancel the agreement and excellerate the payments. |

Not sure on it, but if you don't pay it all off and make a small payment to forstall a collection agency what happens the next time that you don't pay it? All you're doing is putting off the inevitable. Any way that you can come up with the money to pay it off? |

No, you need to pay the minimum to avoid having it sent to the collection agency. Do this if at all possible, or seek something like a debt managment plan to get the help you need to avoid the collection agency. |
