Alex D | Building credit with Credit Cards? |
Do you need to pay late or skip a payment to build credit? I have been told that if you always pay your monthly bill on time and never let any interest get attached to your balance, you don't earn any credit. Help! |

What they mean is that if you pay off the full balance every month it doesnt build, you don't want to be late or get behind never skip a payment!!! Make the minimum payment or more for 6 months before paying the FULL BALANCE!!! that shows a dependable payment history. Another good way to build credit is to save up 4 or 5 hundred dollars and take that to your bank and get a SECURED loan for the amount you have saved. the bank then takes the money to hold until you have paid the loan and gives you the same amount (silly i know) Take that money and put it in a savings account and make the minimum loan paymensts for 6 months then withdraw the money and pay the loan off. Then the bank will give you back the money and you can do it again, this may sound silly but it will work wonders for your credit. |

That is wrong. You need to make sure you pay on time. You don't have to always pay it off everytime. but make sure you do pay it every month. Also if you pay extra it will help. |

DON'T BE LATE OR SKIP PAYMENTS!!!! Pay on time, whether it be the full amount or the minimum amount.

another good way is to get a certificate of deposit(CD) from ur bank, then take out a loan with the CD as collateral, make ur monthly payments on time and it does wonders for improving credit. you can get a 12 month CD with about a 5% interest rate, andt he loan should be about 7% so ur only paying 2% to build credit wihtout the hassle of credit cards that can get intrest up to 22% or higher |

Best to always make payment, at least aways the minimum payment. But never get behind and miss a payment as it works adversely |

No, that is NOT TRUE!! Your payment history makes up 35% of your total credit score. Your recent payment history will carry much more weight than what happened five years ago. Missing just one months payment on anything can knock 50 to 100 points off of your credit score. Paying your bills on time is a single best way to raise your credit score. |

Ha! Who told you that? Paying late and stuff is how you get bad credit.
You need to pay your credit cards on time and pay your bills and such to get good credit. It shows you are responsible with your money. So with a good credit score you can get things like loans much easier, because the bank would be like "well youve never missed a credit card payment, so you must be pretty good at managing your money! So iguess theres less of a chance youll forget to pay your loan payments. fart" |

No. DO NOT SKIP A PAYMENT. The credit reporting agency's have a record of each time you pay on time. When you are late just once-it pops up. Not good, when you need a loan off of someone.
What you should do is go to www.credit.com and choose a credit card for your credit type. There are all kinds of credit cards to choose from whether you have no credit, bad credit or good credit. Even if you get denied a credit card instantly, offers will start to come in the mail for you. Get another credit card and use it for gas or something. Pay it as soon as it is due, and this will keep your credit score in good standing.
Who ever told you to pay late, needs there head examined.
Sometimes the non-payment method worked for people who have no credit cards at all. Skip out on a measley $50 bill and let it go to collections. All of a sudden, credit card offers start pouring in. Then you would immediately pay the $50 debt back and remove it from your credit. I do not recommend this though, as companies increasingly make it a habit to keep negative things on your credit, long after you've paid it and after they have agreed to remove it from your credit file. |

Stay away from credit cards, they are nothing but trouble. Buy a credit card from the store if you need one. |

There is a lot of misinformation about credit. This article will disprove many of the common credit card myths and provide some tips on increasing your credit score. There is no arguing that a better credit score means better interest rates for your mortgage, auto, and all other areas where credit is used. By implementing these tips you could save hundred of dollars in interest in the long run and put cash back in your pocket in the short term.
1) Avoid using cash and borrowing from family for all your purchases. In the eyes of creditors no credit history is the same as a bad credit history. You may get away with paying cash for your car but when you buy your first home it will come back to haunt you. Even if you can afford to borrow or pay cash try opening an account to buy your furniture, automobiles, or home improvements. A diverse credit background will help with your credit score.
2) Your credit report tells all. Do not lie or stretch the truth to lenders, banks, or employers. They will easily catch you and the consequences are not worth it.
3) Do not cancel credit card accounts to improve your credit. The intended affect may be the opposite of what you expect. You can hurt your credit by canceling your credit cards; especially if you have a long history with the account. Losing a ten or twenty year credit history isn't worth it. If you absolutely must stop using a card, try shredding it. An open account that doesn't have a balance looks far better then no credit account at all.
4) Starting early is always better when establishing credit history. Getting a teenager or college student a credit card is a great way to get their history started. For those who don't trust their child's judgment yet there are many prepaid cards that report to credit bureaus. Credit cards report EVERY month on whether you have paid on time or not. To have good credit you should have 2 to 3 credit cards, NO MORE. Then if you keep a 20% balance of your maximum limit at all times it really helps to build up your credit. Like if you have a 1000 dollar limit, you should keep a 200 dollar balance. Credit card companies love that because they are making money off you and they think you know how to handle your money so in turn they raise your limit or offer you more cards. |
