Our divorce was in CA. I have an attorney. My ex stated he has not worked in a year. He is buying a $550K condo now. I want to prove this all to the Judge. The judge did order copies of front and backs of checks but I know he will not bring them to court. He doesn't care. He barely pays child support.
Is there any way to run a credit report on him?
Can a private eye do this?
Any suggestions? |

gerrygoll....would you care to look up the Fair Credit Reporting Act Section 604(a)(1) and explain how you, as a "professional" who "resells credit reports for Equifax" does not know the laws of your profession?
In other words....DO YOUR RESEARCH before responding.
Your attorney can get a subpoena because you are currently going through a court trial, and the judge can order copies of his credit report. I'm not up on California law, but I believe he should also be able to get a "judgement debtor" disclosure forcing him to disclose all of his finances and assets.
Your lawyer knows all this! Make him do his job! |

There are sites that are legal for you to run a background check on him without his permission.
You can go to web sites like peoplesearch.com, or intelius.com. You have to pay a fee, anywhere from $25 and up, depending on what you are searching for. I had used both sites in the past. Over two years ago I found out that my fiance at the time had been married to another woman living in the east coast.
If he has been making income off records, it will be harder for you to find out, unless you do hire a private investigator. I know that private investigators are pricey but sometimes they can dig up things that the internet cannot find.
If you haven't already done so, contact your local Child Support Services in your state to report of your ex. If he is not up to date on the Child Support, they can put liens on any property and investments that he owns. And sometimes they can retrieve info on his income as well. |

A lawyer can get a credit report on him. If you have the money, a private investigator is your best bet - trust me. |

A lawyer can ask the courts to get a report on his finances. Also if the judge ordered him to bring in these checks and he doesn`t he will most likely be held in contempt of court and placed in jail or recieve a large fine or both. He will have to explain how he can buy a $550K condo but cant pay his child support. If nothing else call the IRS and tell them what is going on. They love to investigate things like that. |

Can you or your attorney do a search of public records involving real estate transactions, etc.? This is public domain information and if you were able to produce some information that your ex is buying such an expensive property, i.e. a deed or property tax info from the county assessor, I would hope the judge would be prompted to want more information. I don't think you can run a credit report on him unless he consents. A private eye could perform surveillance but it is expensive. Perhaps you could "catch" him working, etc. |
