Yes, I did.
my mom and I had to pretend I was 18 (which was hard because I was only 16, and I looked 12...) but it worked!!
Start with Debit, or check card at age 17 so you don't accidentally mess up your credit at a young age. that is the LAST thing you want to do. I got my debit card @ 16, and my credit is just fine (at 19 with a credit card), because having a debit card somewhat prepares you for keeping track of your spending to prevent overdrawing. I'd definitely do it if possible.
We did it at Chevy Chase, but I'm not sure if that's in your area/whatever bank in your area would allow that. I'm also at Bank of America, maybe they can work out some kind of plan with you and your mom--they're pretty negotiable. Good luck! |

Yes, it's pre-paid, and generally your parents load it for you and acts like a regular Visa/Mastercard. Check with a bank for details. |

If it's debit, not credit. Talk to your bank, each one has a different policy. My bank let me have a debit card when I was 13! |

You would need an adult co-signer. Trust me. You don't want one yet. That's the quickest way to get in trouble. Stick to spending cash or checks. If you think you must have a card, some banks like Key bank will let you buy a "gift card" that's a visa and you can spend it anywhere that takes Visa. Plus, I think if you lose it it's replaceable. |

Yes, you can get a debit card from most banks when you open a checking account. If you shop around you should be able to find a checking account/debit card without any fees. I'd stay away from the store credit cards, a debit card is all you probably need at the present. |

uh yes. If you have an account that is linked to that card all it does is draw money from an existing account. it is NOT a line of credit. my 16 year old nephew has one and so does my 13 year old niece
here in NC it is BB&T |

I was 17 when I got my debit card.
I think my grandmother had to approve it since she's the main person on my checking account.
I use Wachovia. |

I doubt you can get a credit card (unless its under your parents name). A debit card should be easily accessible, seeing as how it is YOUR money. Just ask whatever bank you use. You're 17, so you might not have to get a parent to cosign. |

wells fargo let me, because it was 2 months before my 18th bday and they said it was close enough |

i wouldn't recommend a credit card unless you're really responsible w/ your money. most, if not all, banks will let you have a debit card if you have a checking account |
