Ok, so I know I have messed up my credit big time. Not to mention that my fiancé’s car got reposed (I co-signed). I am not working like I was a month ago and I can not afford to pay my credit cards. I have 5 different cards!! What should I do? Who do I need to talk to? I can pay some money, but it won't even cover the min. payment! Please help!! |

Call the companies and tell them your situation, and see if they can reduce your monthly payments for the time being while you get everything straightened out. If you are completely desperate they will recognize that, and they will try and work with you so that they can get back as much money as they can from you. Cancel things you don't need like cable or whatever, unless you have to pay a hefty termination fee. I hope you like Ramen Noodles, hun. goodluck!
PS don't get a home equity loan to pay your credit. If you can't make payments now, how do you expect to pay them on your house? If you don't pay for that, they take it away! |

First off, if one card has a higher limit than the others, try transferring balances from smaller cards to the ones with bigger limits. That way you eliminate the smaller debts. Once you do that, get rid of those cards.
If that isn't possible and all balances are high, my suggestion would be calling the credit company and ask for a lower APR. Do not beg. If that doesn't work, try to work out a plan with the credit company for the most part they'll work with you because they just want to get some money.
After you clear that up, put those cards away and pay the bills without ever looking at the cards. It's fine to keep one but thats it. |

Talk to a credit-counseling service. They'll tell you (for free) that you can either consolidate and pay the full amount or you could settle for a lower total amount. The idea is that you talk to the counseling service, and they take care of everything from there. They will freeze your credit card accounts and, from that point on, the creditors won't charge late fees or over-the-limit fees. Trust me -- this is what they do. It's dirt cheap (mine costs me $8/month).
SOME POINTS:
Consolidation: they talk to your creditors, get them to reduce the interest rates, and you pay one payment per month to the counseling service. this doesn't hurt your credit.
Settlement: you can pay off the creditors, generally without any interest charges, but this ruins your credit.
Counseling services are non-profit, very understanding, and will work with you to find a solution. Just don't wait too long. They can still help, but the sooner you talk to them, the easier the problem is to fix. |

Maybe you can transfer balances to another card...you need to get rid of some of these cards. Always pay more than the minimum balance.. good luck.. |

If you have a decent job and can afford to pay a little bit a month. I would go to a banker and get money at a lower interest rate. Cards will charge you 20% when you could go to a bank and barrow for 8.5-9 right now. You are probably paying more in interest than you are paying for your debt. Talk to a banker and they will help you with this situation. |
