Can I get the over the limit thing removed?
I went to buy groceries and I swiped my card and signed but the cashier said I needed to do it again. I asked her to make sure I wasn't charged twice. I got one receipt. I got online and looked at my account to find I am over my limit by a small amount but still over my limit and that will cost me a big fee and mess up my interest rate. I emailed the credit card company about it but won't hear back for 48 hours. I called the store and they gave my anumber to call and they are closed till tomorrow. Is there anyway to get this cleared off my card. I didn't go over my limit and don't want to be penalized for something the cashier messed up.
Additional Details
THe transaction appears twice in my pending charges.

I agree with what the others wrote. If you can show the credit card company there's been an erroneous double billing, they will not only remove the double bill but the penalty. If you have any problem go to the link below. Let us know what happens.

frankster_3
This has happened to me, take the receipt a printed copy of your account and go to manager and tell them to apply credit to card NOW!!!
If they refuse report them to the card company.

Call the credit card company/Bank.... Ask them to please remove the fee... Tell them this is your first time being over the limit... Do not get nasty with them! (I used to work for a credit card company).

If they still will not remove the fee after a discussion. Ask to speak to a supervisor in a nice way. Chances are they will remove it before the call gets to the supervisor. You would be a "waste" of the supervisors time

you'll have to wait and call the store and they should be able to refund right back on your credit card
then you'll have to call the bank and tell them what happened and they will reverse the fee

floridagrandma
Yes, if the over limit is from your over-charging and not the stores.
A store credit should take care of the problem...If not call the credit card company.
1-800 on back of your card.
Call the credit card company especially if you have a problem with the store giving you the credit. If it were me personally I would call my credit card company and explain what happen.
But not to worry it can be taken care of. Get to the store on Monday as soon as possible and talk to customer service or the manager.

azrach187
You won't get penalized if it was the store's fault as long as you have a proof. Sleep easy, it wasn't your fault, the store would contact the credit card company and defer the additional charges.

If the transaction appears twice - then it is an erroneous charge, and they can not charge you an over limit fee.

You have to call them up, and they should capitulate. If they don't, start by explaining the situation, then move on. There is such a thing as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which encompasses many facets of credit.

Furthermore, if you don't make a habit of this, then there shouldn't be a problem anyway.

Good luck.

As a former financial counselor, I used to deal with creditors all the time on behalf of customers. All you should do is wait until the next business day (Monday) and contact your creditor to explain the situation. These fees are not set in stone, so don't worry if they charged you an over-the-limit fee, they can always credit it back to your account. The number to your creditor should be on the back of your credit card or statement. Believe it or not even creditors can be understanding some of the times!

You should be able to call the credit card company and get it sorted out right away.

1. you should card customer service the phone number should be in the back of your card to tell them what happen. they should have 24/7 customer service; otherwise, changing to other card it has later.
