Curious
Can I stop a charge on my credit card for bad service at a salon?
I went into a high end salon, paid over $300 for color correction and left with three tones hair. It looks absolutely awful. I want to stop the charge from coming through until I get this worked out with the salon (i.e., refund or redo, the former preferred). Can I stop payment?
Additional Details
I went in for a consult 2 days ago and was told what I wanted would be easily done. Basically changing some chunky very dark brown low-lights back to blonde like the rest of my hair. I got the "no problem!" and an estimate of $300 plus 4-5 hours in the chair. I was willing to pay it. I went to a higher end salon because I wanted it done right. The low-lights are now "chocolate" according to the colorist and half of the back is a decidedly pumpkin color. If I wasn't so mad, I'd cry. It cost $335!! And that's A LOT of money to me.

When you file a dispute, the card company will contact the vendor about the dispute and give them a number of days to respond why the charge should not go through

They have your signature -- and they will send that to the card as proof that the service was given (whether you were satisfied is an entirely different matter).

You can try to do that, but you're standing on shaky ground.

You should have complained IMMEDIATELY to the salon manager and ask them to either redo or refund you money -- before you left the salon. Because if you go back to them after a few days, they can always say that that is not their work (sleezy, but a common tactic of many towing companies and other businesses)

This might be hard to do....You can initiate what is called a "charge-back," but if the salon has a written signature showing that you approved the charge, they could successfully challenge it. I wouldn't waste the effort....

Once the Service has been done their is really no way of stopping the payment on the service. If you were that dissatisfied with the service before you walk out of the salon you should have brought this to a managers attention. You could have gotten some money back as a refund. What ever you do do not try and talk bad of the salon or hairdresser. The only thing that you can do now legally is take picture of the hair doo and have a pictures of the way that you wanted it to look like. And pursue this in a small claims court. Good Luck

This is a foggy area.

Disputing a charge is not intended as a substitute for a merchant's refund policy.

However, if they took your credit information ahead of time, you can dispute on the grounds that they did not perform the service agreed and therefore should not have charged you. Don't talk about "poor service" because that is value and sound like the weren't polite or something trivial like that. Stick to the fact that they didn't do what you agreed to pay them to do.

Good luck.

Have you gone back or contacted the salon? If not, you should as it is the best way to get something like this resolved.
Usually you can get a charge stopped for goods not delivered or an unauthorized charge. It is not meant for your not liking the color or want a different model of some appliance. If you've tried in good faith to resolve it and fail, you can try stopping the charge. What the credit company will do is temporarily pull the charge off your account and then send a letter to the salon. If the salon agrees with the complaint, the charge stays off, if they say that it is a valid charge it gets put back on.

no you cannot.

You actually received the service.

Visa will only do a chargeback if a mecrhnat failed to perform or in the case of fraud.

cimmoron
That was clever of you to put it on your charge card because if you had paid cash you would never get any satisfaction. Contact your bank and tell them you want to dispute a charge because you're not satisfied and they will tell you the steps to take.............if you fail at that you can always take some pictures of the botched job and go to small claims court to present your case...............

When I have a problem with any purchase I made on my credit card, I call the credit card company and put the charge in dispute, fill out a form stating the problem. Nine times out of ten I get a refund. The credit card co. contacts the merchant and gets them to credit back the charge.

jperrit
Probably not. I haven't heard of this before. Try it and see what happens. Call your credit card company right away.
Most probably the fees were already paid. You can take the salon to small claim court though.
