Hmm, I doubt they would be very happy with that. The educational loans are for necessary expenses such as food, clothes, transportation, tuition, books, school supplies, and rent. Rent is necessary for housing if you are living on your own, but owning a house really isn't if you're a student.

Not if you are smart.

If it is a Federally funded/underwritten/insured student loan, no. If it is a loan taken from a bank, maybe, but a lot of these loans are actually Federally funded, too. So read the terms of your loan contract. If it has anything to do with Sallie Mae, FAFSA, PLUS, or Stafford, then it's Federal money and can only be used for school. These aren't the only types so check with your lender!

In my experience, you can use that money for whatever you please but I would advise against it. I made the mistake of using my "extra" money from my student loan for trivial things and greatly regretted it later. I should have put anything extra back into it as payment and I wouldn't have had as much to pay back in the end. That would have been the smart thing to do.

Yes you can. It's your money. If you use it for housing that's okay.

No because the school will ask for a copy of the loan and then will use the exact amount from the loan for your school. For example, if you received a loan amount of $5000, the school will use all $5000 for school. They won't have anything left for you. If you only needed $3000 but got a loan for $5000, the school will return $2000 to the lender. You don't have a choice.
The lender does not give you the money directly. They give it to the school.

Rae
I wouldn't suggest it
