Banks can and do steal our money when they feel inclined. I know from experience that Natwest are thieves, liars and hypocrites and have absolutely no regard at all for their customers.

yes, i have seen utmost cases where banks do it. whether they can -- no doubt about it, yes. whether it is legal and you have some kind of protection -- I doubt it. the big government seems always on the side of the big banks. it is a tricky and painful question and no government in Canada (must the same in the USA) is tackling the issue head on. the banks have deep pockets...as for the consumer he does not only match up but he hardly knows his rights on this side of the border. case always open but it looks until we have a governor or administrator who has the guts and the political savior to save us...we are at the mercy of the big banks. sorry state of affairs.

if they feel they have exhausted other methods of getting their money back.

YES. Im afraid they can. Banks dont have feelings and dont care as long as they get their money.

if u owe the bank they will if u dnt owe them find out u may have withdrawn to much and sometimes they charge for that

I am choosing the interpret the 'non payment' comment in your question to mean you owe them money and have not made a payment. Read the fine print on the loan. I bet there is a clause allowing them to take any funds on deposit with them to pay any delinquencies. This has been a standard clause in ALL US account contracts for years.

simple answer is yes.

Yes Lloyd's Tsb do this, they take payment for your credit card and loan and make you go overdrawn for example by £300.00 but wont allow a £1.00 cheque to clear then charge me £60.. My best advice to you would be to open a savings type account with another bank to just pay in your Salary then you can spend and pay who you want to.
