You got the right answer. It's called the right of setoff. Since your loan and checking account is at the same bank, I suggest you close your checking account and go to a different bank so this won't happen in the future. |

Government backed student loans, yes... If they filed a Tax lean, yes... Child support, yes.( you should been notified if they did file a tax lean) |

The bank can not seize a check.
If the money were direct deposited, they could seize the funds once they hit the account. |

If you are under a garnishment, lien or default judgment, they will find you, they will attach your bank accounts / wages / property, etc. - depending on the type of debt. |

If you had a negative balance with that bank, then yes. The stimulus checks were issued to people, but those that owed any kind of money to anyone, did not receive those checks. They went to the people who were owed the money.
Pay your bills on time and this kind of thing won't happen. |
