If the vechile is financed, then that company probably allready has a secrued loan on it. They could take possession of the car, but they would have to pay off the financier.
If they are threatning you, look at your rights that you may have, especially on the state you live in. If they are harassing you, you might be able to sue them as well, ofcourse I dont know your state and exact situation |

No, they cannot. I also think it is illegal for them to threaten to do so. Get a hold of legal helpers they will get you in contact with an attorney that will sue them for a contingency fee, I think you may be entitled to a suit, but I am not an attorney, but you need to contact one in my opinion. Do not talk to the collector anymore. Let them know you will only do business by mail, promise nothing to them, don't talk anymore with them. You may still need to settle, but you don't need to put up with the harassment. These people are scum, dont pay them a cent and only deal with the original office concerning any payments. |

Absolutely not. Unless you put the title up as collateral. Since there is currently a lien on the title then you could not have put it up as collateral. They are simply trying to intimidate you. |

nope...they can garnish your wadges and garnish your tax rebate but the only one who can take your car is if you have a loan on it and are not paying and they repo it. A lien is if you where to sell it and your car is paid off the money you get goes to whom ever has the lien. |

Absolutely not! Debt Collectors work on straight commission - they get paid based on how many debts they collect on. They will tell you anything into scaring you to pay off the debt. Best thing to do is to set up a payment plan with the hospital directly.
Or you can just send a small amount of the bill each month to the hospital until the debt is paid off. Next time that collector calls - tell him you made a deal with the hospital directly! That will get back at them for lying to you!

They can if they are prepared to pay off the lien.
Just make sure that the liens are higher than the value. You can get a friend to put another on your vehicle and say that it is because of money that you owe them. You would have to make sure it was someone that you trust though. |
