Absolutely. Haven't you seen the signs? "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." |

No. They may try and refuse them but if someone is a UK citizen and they do not have a current bank account then they are obliged by law to let them have one - even if they have bad credit / bankrupt etc.
It will be a very basic account with just a cashpoint card, no debit card or cheque book but you will be able to have direct debits and your wages paid in.
The banks do not like to advertise this as these accounts do not make them any money - you are not enigible for loans / credit cards / mortgages so they won't make much out of you - but don't let them fool you. If they so just ask for a copy of the banking code and read your rights in there - if they can't / won't give you a copy this is a breech of the code and they will be in trouble. |

Of course they can, it is up to the bank whether they want to give someone an account or not. |

Yes a bank just like a credit card is not required to open an account if they think you might be a credit risk.
As long as they are not violating any laws such as basing the decision on race, sex, age(unless under 18), etc... they can do just about what ever they want. |

Yes Most banks go thru chexsystem and if you ever had a hot check you will have a very hard time opening up an account. |

At my Credit Union we run people through ChexSystems and Homeland Security before they can become a member. Each bank will have it's own regulations and can deny you if you don't meet their regulations. |

Yes. Most banks use Chex Systems, which is a database banks use to keep track of people who have bad checks or an account closed for insufficient funds, fraud, etc. However, some banks are not as strict as others and some do not even use Chex Systems. You can find some of those banks by typing in "non Chex Systems bank account" in Google or Yahoo! search. |

yes they can refuse, by law it is allowed. |

Yes they can but even if you have been reported to chex systems some banks may still open an account for you if you have paid the old account off. I live in Ohio & I know that local banks we have here will take a chance on you. Check your phone book & see if you live near any US Banks. Here they are located in Giant Eagle grocery stores & they have signs in the store all the time saying they can help open an account for you even if you are in Chex Systems.
Good Luck finding a bank! |
