Its been almost 3 years since I got my first Bank of America's Debit card. My friends still asking me..."Why you don't have a Credit card, yet?"...and my answer every time was the same...Because, I don't feel myself financially/job stable to get a Credit Card. Otherwise, I will sink in that financial dept trap. and the Bank sharks will eat me like a cocktail shrimp. I really don't know what to do...may be I am wrong or not, but I really wanna start creating my Credit score. I've heard about no annual fees, unsecured, secured, etc., also about HSBC, Orchard Bank, Providian(WaMu) Bank, and all the small Credit Card issuers, but I'm still really confuse. If you just want a card to start building credit, open an account at a department store, ,or Target. You can limit your spending and build credit. |

I would go with either Capital One or American Express Blue.
Both have no annual fees and are well established, well-known companies.
They will look at your situation and issue it with a $5000 limit. As you use it and pay it off, your credit line will increase |

Technically, you may not qualify for the credit card and rates you're seeking. First get a free copy of your credit report and score then you will have a better idea. If you have a average credit scores and outstanding debit showing, you can kiss goodbye a credit card with a decent rate. As the unsecure credit card companies will look at the very same credit score (for the most part)

Some idiot sent me a harassing message stating what I posted referenced debit cards. Obviously, what I stated referenced UNSECURED CREDIT CARDS. Whomever sent that message to me, learn to read! |

You had the right answer the first time. DONT do credit cards. Period. Forget your "friends". What kind of friend tells another to "do into debt - its the *cool* thing to do!". Thats what credit is - its DEBT. Thats not being very friendly, now is it?
Stick to your guns on this one. Im proud of you. You have no idea how this will save you many years from now. Cash is king. |

Call American Express and see if they have a program for you. They were with me on a Green Card when I made $16,500 as a Teacher and are with me now on a Black Card, 3 Platinum family cards and 36 Gold Business cards. Treat them right and they are the greatest finacial asset you will have. |
