No. They can only take property in your name. However you
will need to show them the log book in his name.
Edit Leambi is mostly correct. However if the baillifs are acting for the Inland Revenue, The VAT or for a magistrates court fine then they can enter your property without your consent, forcibly if necessary. |

They can if you cant prove that the car is not in your name, just show them that the car is in your boyfriends name and they cant touch it. Also they cant enter your premises without permission so don't let them in, just be careful because if the door or window is unlocked then they can enter. |

No, if it's not your car then it can't be taken... |

Nope, as long as its clearly registered under his name. |

wouldn't have thought so - get professional advice (Citizens Advice Bureau in the UK) |

You've got a couple terrible answers here.
First off, you didn't mention if the car is in his name or both your names. That makes a big difference. You also didn't mention which state you are in, which would also have a big impact on giving the correct answer.
For the most part, I think the car is safe. However you'll either need to give us more details or speak to an attorney in your area that can help you. |

As long as the car is in his name they cannot touch it |

Just to add to Leambi's answer - they can't enter your property first time without going through open door/window. Once they've entered property once, they can break in after that.
Are you sure they're bailiffs - they have to have a court order to take away your assets. They may be people who act on behalf of a creditor just threatening you. Welcome Finance do this - send their staff door to door collecting money. |

Yes, if the car secures the debt. |

No they can't however if the car ownership documents are in his name then he is the legal owner. If the finance is on the car then bailiffs cannot touch it, if it was a personal loan from a bank or finance NOT on the car then they can take it without much ado. As the car would not belong to a finance company.
I suggest your boyfriend seeks help with his debts, go to citizens advice before its too late.
I did this myself 8 years ago and now i am financially free as i got specialised help and i am now a house owner and happy again |

No not if its his sole property - he must have proof |

No, they can only take property that belongs to you. |

Human Rights!, no one can take someones belonging until it is proven that there are documents attached with it. |

No I dont think they have right. But if they can prove that you deliberately moved ownership to avoid paying the debt then they can apply to the courts. |

No they can not. And contrary to what your other answerer's say you do not have to prove that ownership of your boyfriends car is in his name. If bailiffs dare to try and steal your boyfriends car then have them arrested for theft. |

If he is the registered keeper they can. |
