It really depends on where you live. In some states yes they can garnish your wages. For the most part though this does not happen. If you are having a hard time paying back your cards then maybe you should see a credit counsler. They can sometimes help. it is better to do something then nothing |

Don't give them access to your bank account. They will clean you out.
Don't give them post dated check. They will cash them all clearing out your accounts.
And, you will have no arguements against them if it goes to court. |

Yes but it depends on the size on the debt as to weather or not they will persue a garnishment request. And the company they are trying to collect for. They will tell you this no matter what amount you owe. There sole purpose is to get you to send your last penny to pay that bill. They could care less that your rent is not paid yet or if you have food.
If you owe the debt tell them what you can pay and make arrangements. If they are demanding to much tell them so and tell them you are sending what you can.
I am long past putting myself out for bill collectors. They are not going to be happy anyway so send what you can. They will keep calling if you do this. Get caller ID and don't give them your work number. Always give your cell number as a work number.
Another trick I fell for. They will also try to make a deal. They will say if you pay half now we will clear the debt. I did this and they did not clear the bill. It took a year of harrassing phone calls before they cleared that up. Insist they send the request in writing otherwise don't fall for it. As this is usually a trick. I have had only 1 company send the request in writing. You then have to respond quickly as they only give you a week to 10 days. |

Yes they can. They can pursue a garnishment after winning a judgment for an outstanding debt. This is an expensive legal process that normally is reserved either for a high debt balance ($8,000+) or it may be pursued one a lower debt balance by an attorney that acts as a collector.
Many states have limits that prohibit garnishment of a worker earning below $20,000 a year. |

Credit card debt is an unsecured debt. They can and will get a court judgement, and they can effectively keep the debt active for a very long time, ruining your ability to ever secure future credit. They can not however, seize property or income to satisfy that debt. |

I dont know where these people get the info. They cannot. Only the IRS, Social Security,Child Support Division....those types of agencies. A Credit card company can only get a judgement against you, if the go to court. That means it goes on record that you owe them. If you are being threatened by a Credit Card company-report them. |
