UK Only

Hello,i work for Experian Credit Ref Agency.

In 2003 the tracing of debtors overseas Act came into force.

I can not tell you how but be assured from 2003,New regulations were brought in,they will find you Trust me on this one !!

It may seem appealing to move abroad to escape UK debts, the person in debt can run but they can't always hide. Creditors have been known to stop chasing those they can't find, however moving abroad doesn't always mean they can't find the debtor. Creditors use the following tactics to trace debtors, talking to neighbours at their debtor's last known address and tracing their activity through using cash. In some cases creditors have relations with other credit companies in that country, making it easier for them to find you. Once the creditor knows which country you are in, they can trace you relatively quickly and start pursuing you for the debt. So it may seem a good idea to move abroad and leave your debts behind, but the creditors can and probably will find you and demand the debt is repaid.

You should ideally establish a repayment agreement with the creditors before leaving the UK. There are many options to clear your debt, even if you no longer live in the UK, for example bankruptcy, IVAs or DMPs.

Your credit history will follow you across any international border. Continue to pay your debts - even if it is just a small amount every month. Don't destroy your credit.

Frogman
Don't do it! Speak to your bank rather. Don't worry, they can't arrest you for just talking about it (can they?).

timsdad
So you are doing a 'moonlight'
as we all leave paper trails someone somewhere will find you.
so keep your head down.

bottomburps
What a decent upstanding human being you are.
You owe 6000 pounds and from your question you have no intention of paying it back, you just want to bale out.
Have a rotten life - what goes around comes around.

Serendipity
So you cant be responsible for yourself....great.

ame2607
plenty of ppl do this each year.. dependaqnt on where ypou go - eg - EU. they will track you down..

sarah c
You don't intend to return now but who knows what you'll be doing in 5 years? I'd carry on with hte repayments. If you ever intend to stay in the EU your credit history will still be messed up.

Brett C
Try to contact these institutions and arrange something with them concerning repayment. You might be suprised with what they will accept. More lenient terms, less repayment amount, etc. Given today's immediate response with credit history, I'm suprised that you are even entertaining the notion of not repaying your debts. Don't go down the path of being dishonest and not taking responsibility for your actions (or debts).

British*Bird
If i were you i would continue to pay even just a little bit of a month. Its easy to say now that you dont plan to come back but dont burn your bridges, if you get blacklisted you will have real probs getting a mortgage etc later on. They will find you, why not ring the companies you owe money to and sort something out? They might be able to help you and then at least you wont have it hanging over you. Som companies can let you take a break if you are struggling or are out of work. Be responsible x

Matt G
file for bankruptcy

Puma
They will write off the money if you leave the country and don't come back and put your name on the blacklist....

Sunidaze
In other words, you owe over 6 grand, you have no job, you're skipping outta the country - nice way to be responsible for what you owe. What a shame.

First thing first. Have these debts been bought by debt collectors yet? If so, call the debt collectors and tell them the problems. Believe it or not, they are very understanding. I know, I'm on my bounce back right now. I was over 40,000 in debt, and I was thinking about leaving or declaring bankruptcy, but leaving the country doesn't do anything but hurt you more and you still have to end up paying. Filing for bankruptcy just delays the inevitable. They changed filing for bankruptcy and even when you file, and are approved, you STILL HAVE TO PAY. But if you just tell the collectors, or even the loan company if they still have the account and haven't sold it to a collector, they will work with you. I was paying $20 a month because that's all I could afford at the time. A few months down the road they ask if you can pay more and if you can't, they'll take what they can get. If the collectors still can't get you to pay something, they'll usually sue you. Most banks and collection agencies WILL NOT WRITE OFF outstanding debt amounts anymore. So my advice to you is to just call them and explain the problems and what you're doing. Because they will find out where you are, it's only a matter of time before they do. And they longer it takes for them to find you, the worse it is.
