Can loan companies etc actually see your credit record?
Or are they only given your credit score? I know I can view my whole credit record online, but can companies you are applying for credit with do the same? Can they find out how much you owe other companies and your repayments etc. Thank you!

Oh and this is a United Kingdom based question!

Angie, it really doesn't matter what country you live in, here in the states, they(credit companies) all know of your credit scores, ect.. Especially if you owe another credt company money.```

yes they can they can also see if you have late payments or court orders against you

amaya7
They can see your scores and all of your individual creditors and your payment history with those creditors

All the time on Q&A I see people from the UK asking questions, but they seem to be asking about the same credit reporting companies that we deal with in the USA. So my answer from a USA standpoint is "yes" loan companies and anyone else you deal with CAN see your entire record, and they pull all three records and they seel them ALL, they see all the payments made, all the store's remarks, the credit score, etc.

Net Rider
When you apply for credit, the creditor can pull your entire credit history. The score is just a more or less standardized way of characterizing your credit performance in one number.

the answer is yes, the see everything so when listing your debts, be very honest.. Also everytime one pulls your credit history it takes points away from your rating. As in when you go to buy a car, they just send it out to all kinds of banks, loan companys, etc. then when someone else pulls your credit report, a red flag goes up--- too many inquiries and you will usually get turned down. If you can get a pre-aproval from your bank or credit union this wont happen. We always get a pre-approval for cars and home. Good Luck

Yep, it's common practice. Car insurance people do it all the time, even when you pay your insurance by check. I didn't know this until I applied for a loan at my credit union for a car and the agent told me that the car insurance agent had been checking every 6 months for the past 3 years!

Gentleman
Of course they can see your credit score , how else are they suppose to see if you are credit worthy .

sammy
yes, when u apply a loan from them.

Jimbo
I'm quite sure they can only see your credit score, nothing else.

Probably can anywhere in the world

When you apply for credit loan companies will look at your credit history as apart of the application process. The loan companies have online access to your credit records and will know in a matter of seconds if they will give you credit.

srracvuee
yes exactly the same as insurance companies they can see it all

gorilla
Of course they can. If you have had a poor repayment record in the past ie late payments/non payments/defaults then its all laid out in its gory history.
Your record is not your property, it is available to anyone you want to borrow from, however if there is a mistake you can demand it be corrected.

PS Looks like there is a sad loser giving the thumbs down to good responses. Just a suggestion wimp, get a life!!
