Go into the bank and ask to speak to someone in customer service.
Be polite and ask that the money be returned. You know that it was not their fault but it wasn't yours either and express your concern that their customer service should be responsive to their customers abuse.
Most of the time they will fix it. If not then ask which other bank they would recommend for you to change your account to. And then go to UHaul and take the paperwork and tell them you expect them to pay for it because it was their fault.

Uhaul should pay your overdraft
If they don't U HAUL them to small claims court and report them to the BBB...they can usually get the company to do the right thing |

Start writing letters and calling and keep at it. Legally they are in the wrong. Calmly remind them of that and keep at it - I have had similar mistakes reversed (which were not a result of my actions/errors). This is pretty common these days - they will bleed you any way they can. I have very good credit, have never had any problems - until recently. I don't know why they are like this these days.
Get everything in writing, take down the names and dates when you call - keep very good records and reference them when you call them back - just let them know that you are not going away and remain calm while doing it .
But fight it, that is your money and credit rating they are messing with. |

The easiest thing to do, if you have not overdrawn your account before, is to ask the bank nicely for a courtesy refund of the fee. It's not really the bank's fault though. You can also ask your bank about overdraft protection so that when mistakes like this happen, it won't affect you so badly.
Personally, I think U-haul should pay the charge if the bank won't waive it and you should speak to the manager of the store about this as well. If the manager won't help you, then by all means, contact your local Better Business Bureau for assistance. |

You should not have to pay the overdraft fee if the overdraft was a caused by a fraudulent charge. You will probably have to go to the bank and ask to speak to the bank manager to get the fee reversed. If the bank refuses to reverse the fee, sue both them and the rental outfit |

You were overdrawn, which was U-Haul's fault, but never the less, you were overdrawn. Now U-Haul has refunded the charge for the erroneous 100 miles, but that "deposit" doesn't negate the fact that you were overdrawn. It is, however, U-Haul's fault. So, U-Haul should refund you the overdraft charge. |

I don't have enough information to give you a sound advice. But, if you have cleared the facts that you were not at fault. Then for sure you have to go to the bank and they have to clear it for you. Yes, they need to fix it. |

something similar happened to me.
i was double charged on an online order and it made my debit card into the negative. of course i was immediatly on the phone with the company and the bank and the bank pretty much said "life isnt fair you owe us this money" and the company said "its not our fault"
...
~shrug~ you can try calling u-haul and see how generous they are but sadly i think you will get similar reactions that i did.
