oh yea they can. because you don't have legal rights to your accounts. and credit card debt is unsecured debt this is why they are closing accounts. they actually closed my credit account i have for over a year because they changed their policy and credit accounts that were 16 dollars over the limit they were shutting down. i thought that it was crazy as well. if you have other cards i would advise you to use them as little as possible but keep a balance on them.

Yes. Many banks are reviewing accounts resulting in increased interest rates, decreased limits, and in some cases, closing accounts.
How long has it been since you last used the account? Inactive accounts are being closed faster than they use to. |

Yes, they can close your account if they feel that you no longer meet their criteria for creditworthiness.
This can happen due to higher debt balances on other accounts, the presence of any late payments, or even a habit of making just the minimum payment. Making only minimum payments month after month can cause you to be labeled as a slow pay. |

Unfortunately they can close your account.
There may be a few reasons, if you have a high limit, if you are defaulting on other accounts or if they have a quota to meet (ie close all accounts that are rarely used).
I'd give em a call and ask. You never know if someone's stolen your ID and has been doing some hanky panky.

Sounds like you have one of the cards backed by Urban Bank.
In light of the recent downturn in the sub prime credit market, many cards are going to the wayside. Salute Visa is one of many that has "thrown in the towel".
While I don't know which card or what type of account it is many sub prime card accounts are being closed out, it is not because of you as an individual, but many individuals are affected by this market downturn, myself included.
I have never been late on a payment and have never been anywhere close to over limit, but my card account has been closed.
The best thing to do is call the customer service number on the back of your card, be prepared to be on hold and remember, you are not the only customer that they have to deal with. |

Yes they can. Many issuers appear to be going through a process of changing terms, reducing lines, and all the way to closing accounts. Probably pulling credit scores and applying new policies to scores under certain limits, increasing requirements to open new accounts, etc. All part of the credit crunch.

yes they can. i had a sears card for years. only thing ever charged on it was a monthly credit alert service, at 60.00 a year. i never missed or was late with a payment. im sure they reviewed my credit report and then sent me a letter stating my account would not be renewed after the expire. date. oh well. though i did have thoughts of maxing it out before the expire date i let it go. |

Yes they can. They make the terms.
Even if you have made every payment on time of ABC Credit Card Co but have missed some payments or are over your limit on others ABC can cancel your account or lower your credit limit at any time. |

You can certainly call them and ask why they did it. They may have a reason but just haven't spelled it out to you.
Credit is not a right and standards are getting much tighter. If you have other accounts with big balances, they may want out. |
