There is no debtors prison.
What will happen if you don't pay, is it will be reported on your credit reports, and your score will be trashed.
Next, it might be turned over to collections where they will try everything to get you to pay.
It will stay on your credit reports for 7 years then drop off. You will continue to owe the money though.
Call the credit card company and see if you can pay less. It would be worth it if you can. You don't want to graduate and not be able to get a job! Employers now check credit reports. |

You won't be going to jail. I work for a credit card company, will keep the bank anonyumous since I am typing on working hours.
The best thinkg to do is make an arrangement with your financial institution. If you do not pay your credit card, eventually you will be receiving phone calls. If you still don't pay after several months, your bank will give up on you and sell your file to a collection agency that will be continuously bothering you with calls every 3 hours.
Your credit card minimum payment should be around 195$ if your balance is at 6500$. If you work 40hrs a week, then you should have sufficient money. If you are at 7$ an hour, you must be making at least 800$ a month after tax. Mu suggestion, get a cheaper place, don't ruin your credit! |

I seriously doubt that you could go to jail. The credit card company will eventually take you to court and if you do not show up and defend yourself they will win judgment and if that happens every time you put money in the bank they will electronically transfer it to themselves by court order. If you do show up in court it is likely that the judge will make you make a payment that you can afford. You should contact the credit card company at least a few times and ask them to drop the interest and penalties and allow you to make a smaller payment. Explain your situation. Keep a record of the calls and who you spoke to and what day and what time. Then you can prove to the judge when and if they take you to court that you are making an attempt. You can be put in jail for taking out credit and intentionally running up the cards for stuff and cash advances with no intention of paying. That is fraud. You can not be put in jail if you simply have just gotten yourself in trouble and can't afford to pay. As for the car, you will have to ask the bank that financed it. If they are going to take any kind of loss on the vehicle they will want that money. Sell it out right for the amount of the loan and pay it off. Try advertising it as take over payments. The bank would have to approve them if they take over payment. The bank would also rather have the money than the car. |

CCS is a great way to fix your problem. I turned 18 and got 3 cards maxed em out and went on CCS and have been current for 3 months. My total debt was $1000 and Im down to $730 now. |

My parents are in a lot of debt, as well. Credit card bills, mostly. If I remember right, if you pay a little at once, the interest will just keep building up on the credit card bills. And you'll have to pay more and more. And if you fail to pay anything at all, they'll send you warning notices. If you keep failling to do it, they'll get a court order for you to pay, and if you can't cough up the money, you can go to jail. But that's really drastic. I mean, my parents have been in debt for years and it hasn't gone that far (yet). But unfortunately, that's how these companies get you. I'm not sure what to tell you to fix the situation, but I don't think you have to worry about going to jail anytime soon. |

They will help you consolidate your credit cards with very low monthly payments. You can also try to sell your car but may not get the total amount that you own back. You can also try consolidating your student loan. If your debt is still too much and you can't pay you will need to file for bankrupcy...this is not advised....and they will take your car back. |

brown Eyed Girl.........We are in a recession right now because BIG BUSINESSES GOT GREEDY AND SHIPPED ALL OF OUR JOBS TO CHINA. not because of people not PAYING there credit card. Credit cards are terrible a majority of americans have credit cards and because of all the high interest they are filthy rich.. they write it off at the end of the year anyways....they still come out ahead EVEN if some one dont pay.....They get a tax break for what is called a LOSS. and they still have a collection agency trying to get the money. If they succeed they get more money! our country is in a recession all because of GREED. gas prices dont need to be this high. our automobiles could be made here and create more jobs.. They could raise the import tax to make imports more expensive, and force big business to come back to our great country!!!!!!!! |
