No you need to be 18 to get a credit card

TaxGurl
You have to be 18 to legally sign a contract and get a credit card.

Prior to being 18, your parents can add you as an additional card holder to one of their accounts. This will help you build your credit.

I believe you have to be 18 to hold a credit card. At least that's true for most places I'm aware of.

When I was 16 my parents got me a credit card through them in my name. This was all legal. Sorry I don't know the specifics. They paid the bill back then and so I was able to build good credit while in high school and it has become an advantage for me now. As in renting or loans or anyting along those lines.

If you are under 18, you cannot legally enter into a contract. I got a credit card for one specific store when I was 16, because the store knew i had a job & I worked 2 doors down. But none of the regular companies will do it. If your parent, however, get you an "additional card," it shows on your credit rating It will show you as an additional user, but your purchase and payment history will be listed.

No, you cannot legally enter into a contract until you are 18.

You should have your parents get you a credit card by applying in their name and adding you as an authorized user. This will give you excellent credit in the long run assuming your parents have good credit as well. But if they have bad credit, you will get bad credit as well. You will not affect their credit though if you are an authorized user on their account. It only affects you. Your parents can also put you on an existing credit card as well. You have to be responsible and trustworthy though. If you just want to establish credit just let your parents put you on their account as a user and don't even carry the credit card so you won't be tempted to overspend. I don't think you can apply for a credit card independently if you're under 18. You might be able to get one... I'm not sure. Don't apply for store credit cards... They tend to lower your credit score if you don't use them or you have late payments on them. It's best to just have one or two credit cards. My wife and I have read a lot of books and have done a lot of research on credit. Our credit score is over 750. I hope this helps. Have a good one!

First off, it's a myth to assume having a credit card builds good credit. You can build a good credit history with simply a debit card, and a checking account. Paying your rent on time every month goes into your credit history. Personally, if I had to do it over, I would completely abstain from any use of credit cards, and not even carry one around, I don't care how low the limit. Apply for a debit card, most debit cards are visa, and insured just like a credit card, only with a debit card you are only spending what you have in your checking account. You will build much better credit this way. Credit cards are not intended to build your credit but to destroy your credit and enslave you as a debtor. Unfortunately, I'm one of the many who have learned the hard way.

well do u have a job? this helps immesurably. u have to be able to demonstrate that u can pay off whatever credit someone extends to u.

or u can get a secured credit card. meaning u make a deposit into the bank or company and they give u credit equal to your deposit. provided u always keep that balance in there.

also start with small dept store cards (one at a time for goodness sake!!!! lol) like jc penny, sears, ross, marshals etc. and u gotta keep em paid off! buy small stuff and pay em off every month or almost.

I think you can have a credit card at 16 but you have to have an good amout of money to be able to use it. It really depends on the company's restrictions. Now when you get the credit card just buy one thing and pay for it. Then cut the card up and don't use it again. Do this several times with different cards then you will have really good credit! Always remember to be extremely careful to who you give your info to and make sure that the place is a well known trusted company.
