I was wondering if you build credit using store credit cards? I have one Visa Credit card and about three different store credit cards, like a Macy's Department store credit card and a Banana Republic credit card, which can only be used at their stores.
Anyway, so far I have a good credit score, when I checked last year it was 700. I don't max out my cards and always pay more than the minimum payment. I also never been late on a payment.
I was asking, because I was told by someone that you don't really build credit with those cards. |

You can and getting credit and using it responsibly does help build up credit real nicely. But remember store cards have high interest rates and every time you apply for a card or the companies check your record this gets noted on your file and can be bad for your credit as it shows you rely too much on credit and are a risk to lend to.
Some store cards such as a card in the uk called john lewis partnership doubles up as a john lewis store card and a mastercard. So store cards are great but beware how you use them they are the worst for fees and interest though. |

Store cards do build a credit history. However, like you mentioned, they really are only good at their own locations. I got a Sears card last year for some major savings but quickly canceled it because I didn't need it anymore. But it is listed on my credit reports, and your cards are listed on your reports also. |
