Can you file bankruptcy more than once in 7 years?
does it matter if one bankruptcy was filed while you were married and then get divorced and want to later file as a single? Does it matter the type?

Studly
Man! Don't you just LOVE these answers?

Either they preach to you about being in debt, or they try to answer the question and simply don't have a clue what they are talking about. Can't you guys JUST ONCE do your research and quit guessing?

The new bankruptcy laws made some changes to the refiling periodl..

If you had filed for Chapter 7, you can not file for Chapter 7 again for 8 years.

If you filed for a Chapter 7, and you now wish to file a new Chapter 13, you must wait 4 years.

If you filed a Chapter 13, you must wait 2 years before filing a new Chapter 13.

You can file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy again after six years has passed from the date of your last filing.

It depends on what type of bancruptcy Chapter 11, 13 etc...
If you are just doing a reconstruction of your bills, not trying to get completely out of paying them, then yes. If you are trying to wipe the slate completely clean, I believe the new laws restrict you to every ten years. Any bancruptcy lawyer will give you that info for free

Only if you are a productive member of society, which it seems you aren't.

I like how this question rolled off of your tongue. Filing bankruptcy is final choice -- like jumping off a cliff. You should have tried every other feasible option before getting a pricey lawyer and going through statutory debt counseling and filing Chapter 7, Chapter 11, or Chapter 13.

Conduct an inventory of your personal finance and true survival needs and align your budget with your personal finance. Call your creditors and negotiate 10% of all balances because your credit probably is not worth salvaging at this point. You can restore your credit over several years, but you are in survival mode at this point.

No you can't file bankruptcy more than once in 7 years. And stop trying to pimp the system. Face the music -- face your creditors-- and learn that avoidance is not the best recipe for closure.

Sounds like you need more than just debt relief -- you need to understand how to live within your means and avoid unnecessary purchases that ultimately lead you to consider filing for bankruptcy TWICE in a seven year period.
