Can you open a door with a credit card and how? thx for answering?

Gossip Girl Lover
Why you asking? Planning to rob a bank. A crappy bank with suckish doors that can be broken into by a credit card. A credit card from THAT bank.
Yea, i'm confusing my self.

This website offers step by step details and pictures
http://www.wikihow.com/Open-a-Door-With-a-Credit-Card

1. Choose your largest, most easily flexible credit card.
2. Slide the card into the vertical crack between the door and the frame (where the lock is) as far as it will go at a perpendicular angle with the door.
3. Tilt the card so the side that's closest to you is almost or is touching the doorknob. Push it again until you feel it slide in more.
4. Bend the card the opposite way, forcing the lock to go back. Quickly open the door.

This is a technique to use when you accidentally lock yourself out. Do not use this technique to break into premises to which you do not have permission to enter! You won't enjoy being charged with trespassing or "breaking and entering".

Yes, on all the old doors, try a butter knife, they get the job done for me.... Good Luck!!!!

SANDMAN
Yes and no.

Yes, if you can get the card wedged in between a slanted handle door lock, thereby pushing it away from connecting into the door.

No, if you're trying to use it on a dead bolt, which has no slanted part for the card to wedge into.

try a window 8-)

I love that you asked this question in the "credit" forum :)

Although this trick has been shown in several television shows and movies, it is not possible to open a lock with a credit card, except for one particular type of lock. It will not work on a dead-bolt lock, or many commercial locks used in apartment buildings today, precisely for that reason.

Lupin_da_3rd
the trick only works with doors without a deadbolt lock. So basicly you use the credit card to trick the doorknob's lock into open by taking advantage of how the door shuts. Here it's easy to explain it with pictures

May I ask why would you attempt to open a door with a credit card. Are you a crook, just curious, because most individuals that lock themselves out the house, or car or job, have spare keys, or Triple AAA.

The trick is to use it to push the tapered end of the bolt back. Depending on the door and the locking mechnism it may not be possible.

Yes
put a light tension on the door. use the credit card to work the pin over. the door will open. Then you get to spend time in the pen with a big hairy guy named Bubba that shows an intense interest in your butt.

Some locked doors can be opened with a credit card. If the bolt has a curved face toward you, you might be able to insert a stiff card between the door and the strike plate to push the bolt into the lock and allow the door to open.

_nicole_
Sometimes. It depends on the door. You simply put the credit card between the door and the lock. Push the lock over with the credit card and turn the knob. The door should open. Do not do this to anyone else's property but your own. You don't want a laundry list of charges for tresspassing!

Funny you asked this question here and got so many responses! I love it! lol

Eli N
yes.
but not on many doors anymore.

raphster_aguayo
it works on a few doors, but rarely.
infact, once my sister was locked inside the bathroom accidentally ad my uncle used a credit card to open it.

I'm kind of confused of your question. What do you mean opening a door with a credit card?

If you mean those doors that are automated if the machine recognizes your number, then yeah only if it's valid, but I'm still not sure of what you are asking. You can clarify and then ask it again.

Some doors but not all. Cant tell you how but you stick it in the door where the latch is.
