You can order online with a debit card (Visa Debit/Electron and/or Maestro (formerly known as Switch)/Solo.)
As the other posters have stated you are better off using a credit card as under the Credit Act 1974 you have a greater deal of protection BUT this is usually over £100.00 and up to £30,000.
However and this is the important part: the purchase needs to be £100.00 in one go. The protection does not apply if you made four separate purchases of £25.00.
I suggest you solely have a credit card just for online purchases (assuming you are "credit-worthy.") for fraud prevention reasons.

Be careful when you order online. A Pay-Pal account is also quite useful. In England if you pay over £100 the CREDIT card company is jointly liable with the retailer, but not a debit card, not sure about the situation in America, so you have a degree of protection, but, as I know from experience, the credit card companies always try to weasel out and you have a real battle to get them to fulfil their legal obligations, but they are banks and so just as crooked as lawyers! |

You can, but caveat: Debit card offers no protection against fraud. If you know and trust the merchant, go ahead.
CC - Yes you can, but too much scam out there, be careful. There is limited amount of protection available.
Best way? Pay pal. It offers a degree of protection. If they do not accept payments this way, I will not buy from them if I were you. |

The dispute process for unauthorized transaction is zero using a straight debit card. you enter your pin is the same as cash. visa/mastercard branded check cards are slightly safer but have different rules than a credit card ( varies by bank ). The dispute process and getting a refund is a lot more easy with a true credit card. |
