Cant get credit?
i can not get credit to save my life. my situation is this. i earn about 24k, and im on a debt management program and have been for 3 years and it is not an iva, also my monthly payments have never been missed. i have a 1700 overdraft which i live in and verry rarely go over the limit. i dont have any credit cards or storecards and have recently paid off a car finance. ive had a few loans and paid them off. the only time i got in a bit of bother was when i left the army, i missed a few payments on a few things, like my wedding loan, a a store card for which i got a few default notices hence why i went on debt managment. now, even tho i earn good ish money and have a verry secure job, i cant get credit. ive been on exuifax and expierien and that doesnt realy tell u much so i would like to hear from anyone in the same boat and how they got round it

Well to summarise
you are in a debt management programme.
Owe £1700 on an overdraft
Missed loan payments
Defaulted

You are not going to get credit for as long as you are on the programme and your past record is not good.

No one is going to take the risk, lending to you.

Not what you want to hear, but it's a fact.

Why not save up for things instead of buying things you can't afford on credit

Although it's not an IVA, I would assume the debt management program you are under will stop lenders giving you anything.
Lying about this won't help, as it will show up on any credit check that is carried out. I know it is tough, but you have to try & live on what you earn. The fact you have a £1700 overdraft shows that you are still living beyond your means & that the scheme is doing you no good what so ever.
With the "credit crunch" that is happening, you will probably not be able to get anything till you have cleared your previous bad debt. Sorry this isn't good news, but you could use this to try & sort out your finances once & for all.
Contact your bank & ask to speak to a money management advisor. I'm sure they will do what they can to help you.

You will probably need to go an apply for a first premier or orchard card. These cards are for people who are trying to build their credit back up/ They do have some fees attached but they are well worth it for credit building. I have one orchard card and 2 1st premier. Now when you get these cards you only want to use them for very small purchases and never utilize more that 30% of your total available credit. You can see these cards at http://creditcardwarehouseonline.com

Before you apply for any credit you need to know why your credit scores are low. By examinining your credit report. Buy a 3 in 1 crd rpt. A good company can be www.privacyguard.com or any other. After you see what is in your report them follow this steps.

1. You have to clean your credit first by disputing the information to the bureaus.
2. Reduce any credit card to a 35% of your credit limit; this will increase your credit score almost immediately.
3. Do not apply for any credit card unless is a secure credit card since the interest are normally low and usually lenders do not run your credit report.
4. Last you only need to have 4 accounts to have good credit.

Contact me via email for further help if you wish to. Best of luck…..

I couldn't get a credit card to save my life either. my credit score was 520. I agree with the poster above, bak889988. You need to get an orchard card and first premier. These are basically guaranteed approvals. I have 2 orchards and 2 first premier and my credit score has improved by 100 points in the first year. They also raised my limit twice since I signed up. I checked out the website he suggests and it seems like they have some of the best cards for your situation. Once you start with these cards and show you can make all your payments on time you will then be able to move to better cards with higher limits. Just when you get these cards pay them off and just use them for very small purchases. Do NOT utilize more than 30% of your total available credit, do not max them out, and do not go over the limit or miss a payment. Do this and you will be well on your way to getting better credit.

contact experian or Uswitch/ Money supermarket customer service to get advice about your situation. I have never done so but apperently they can give you good advice but just be careful at the end they have you to sale you something. Also try getting a capitol one credit card, it is suppose to help you restore your credit score but the interest is upto 33% and the limit is £200 then after 4 months it will go upto 500

you cant get credit?? i wouldnt moan about it, the country is in a recession .... soon there will be nothing for anyone and the ones who owe loads will be forced to pay up

Go to one of the companies that help you build your credit - Barclaycard for one, Vanquis or Capital One. I wonder if you're being too honest - maybe don't tell them about the debt management program xxxxxxxxx

I have had some bad credit in my past and it was extremely difficult to get a credit card. Try Capital One, they have a secured credit card that is made to help people get their credit back on track. You apply just like a regular credit card and they assess how much of a risk you are and you pay them a small amount as a security deposit and then you get a credit card. Some banks may offer the same option for you. The amount is usually small to start and will be increased if you pay your bill on time all the time.
