7 Years is the norm. A charge off simply means that Cap1 is no longer trying to get the money from you. You do however, still owe it.
A word of caution: If you contact Cap1 and attempt to negotiate or make good on the debt by making payments, you renew the cycle and you've got another 7-years that Cap1 is going to be your buddy.
Be advised that is anytime within the next few years before it comes off your report you try to make a major purchase or refinance if you own a home, you're going to have to pay it.
Good luck. |

A charge-off just means the original creditor is no longer persuing the debt. It doesn't mean you don't owe it anymore.
Charge-offs wil continue on your report(s) for 7 years from the date of the delinquency that led to the charge-off.
**Not 7 yrs. from the charge-off, 7 yrs. from the date of the delinquency (missed payment) that led to the charge-off. |

The length of time a negative mark can stay on your credit report starts from the time you were late or the late payment went into collection, not from the last time you made a payment on the account. Some collection agencies update their reporting status on you to keep the account active with the bureaus to extend the time the account appears on your report. This is very deceiving of them, because most often the account is updated and the period of time the account is active appears to be extended. You will want to challenge this with the credit reporting agencies in writing. If you do, bureaus will correctly remove it 7 years from origination. |

Charge offs stay on your report for 7-years from the date of first delinquency.
I would be more worried about the collection company that they sold your account too.
They will come after you and may take you to court depending on the amount you owe.
If they do and get a judgment, they can than attach bank accounts, garnish your wages (if your State allows it) and file liens on any other property you may own like cars, boats, land and homes.
All of this collection activity will also show on your credit report for 7-years making it next to impossible to get any other type of loans without making huge down payments, paying huge fees and State maximum interest rates. |

7 years from date of first delinquincy but that is usually just a few months difference than date of charge off |

It will be reported for 7 years from the charge off... if they sue you and get a judgment, it will be even longer..... usually can be renewed forever.
Just call them and settle. You promised to pay. |

Charge-off is just an accounting term-you still owe, and they will leave it on your credit 7 years from date of last activity. |

Defaults stay on your credit file for 7 years and late payments stay on for 36 months. |
