I bought a car a couple months ago and took out a 6 grand loan for it. When I took out the loan they said not to pay it off sooner then a year or else it will hurt my credit score since its my first loan. Will after making two payments on it of $200 I can pay the whole thing off already and still have 2 grand left over. Is it true that paying off the loan sooner then a year will hurt my credit score? or should I just pay it off before the interest adds up. I paid off 1/3 of the car the other day, to cut this months interest payment in half so now I only have 4 grand to go. |

It depends on what your personal goals are. Are you trying to improve your credit score? Then you should just make the scheduled payments to establish a good history. The savings in interest on other loans down the road (such as a mortgage) that you will get from having a good FICO score will make up for the interest you are paying now on the car.
If you just want to be out of debt and not pay interest and are not worried about improving your credit score, then go ahead and pay it off. Paying off a loan will never HURT your score, but it can limit how much the loan can HELP your score. |

You should just pay it off, a $6000 loan isnt going to do much for your credit honestly. you need loans or credit accounts that last 3 years or more for it to look good on your credit.
I suggest getting a credit card or 2 to pay for your gas then pay on it every month on time, this after a few years will help your credit score go up ALOT.
But a car loan for 1-2 years wont do much may aswell just pay it off if you can. |

Good questions. There are two options you have here:
A. Pay off the loan now and suffer a possible pre-payment penalty (which will not affect your credit score at all)
B. Pay your loan down to a very small amount ($10-$20). This will make your finance charges TINY. There is no penalty for this choice. It is the same thing I did with my car loan. Instead of paying the 365 a month, I paid like 1500 a month til it was down to almost nothing. Once the pre-payment penalty is waived (usually 2/3 the way through the loan) then pay it off in full. |

If your score is good then just pay it off. When I first moved to the states I had to build credit and one of the things that helped was paying off my car loan. Same thing, it was a $5,000 loan and I just kept it going to build my score. |

Pay off the car loan and save on interest. I seriously doubt that paying early will affect your credit score at all. If it does, it would certainly be no more than a few points one way or the other. It's missing payments that clobber your score, not paying early. |
