Yes but if you go to any other bank besides one you have an account with they might charge you a fee to cash it.

Cashier's checks aren't what they used to be. At one time they were guaranteed, but anymore there are so many forgeries, that they are generally only honored at either your own bank where you have an account, or the bank it was drawn on.

You can go to any bank and check that what their fees is for opening a checking account. Most banks have no fee checking accounts. Open an account and then regularly submit your checks in the bank. And you could ask for direct deposit too. So it's the best to open an account first.

The policy of the bank where I work is as follows: If you have an account at our bank, you can deposit/cash checks drawn on any bank. If you do not have an account at our bank, you can cash checks drawn on our bank for a fee. If the check is not drawn on our bank and you do not have an account with us, we will generally not cash checks. If the check was a government check, the rules may be different. I work in a back office and don't recall all the rules.

No. Anymore (because of the patriot act) banks have become very strict with whom they deal with. If you have an account, obviously you could but I am assuming you do not have an account so here are some suggestions: sign it over to someone that you trust and either go to the bank with them or have them give you a check and you can take it to their bank and cash it ... ... if the same bank that the cashiers check is drawn is in your city then go to that bank...they may charge a small fee ... ... obviously call check cashing places and find out if they'll do it (for a fee, of course) ... ... Airport banks will usually help even when you don't have an account. I've been in these types of situations rather often so I feel your pain. good luck

karatebabe05
yes. but depending on the bank, then might charge you a fee. it would be best to open an account.

Not likely. You'll have to go to the bank where you have an account, or to the bank that's listed on the check.

You need to take it to the bank it is drawn off of.. Did you receive this check from someone you know? I dont mean you have talked to them on the phone. There are alot of fake cashiers checks out there I see them everyday. I work at a bank. Please be careful.
