Yes, you can still bill for the remaining balance. I am a collector so I know this for a fact. The amount due remains the amount due unless there is a mutual agreement otherwise. I could write paid in full on my car loan and still owe $500 and the bank would still bill me as well as turn me over to the credit agency for not paying my debt.

This is totally contingent on the state you live in (and do business in).
In some states, writing "Cashed under protest" above your signature will allow you to sue for the balance.
In other states if you cash the check you are screwed!
You need to consult your state laws to see which state you live in.
We can't tell you and most of the other answerers are soooo off base.

By cashing that check you agreed to the "paid in full". I would of gave the check back and told the person to re write it.

Yes.. unless you agree that it is paid in full, then you can still collect on the remaining amount.
But do not write anything on the check such as "Disputed" or Cross out the Paid-In-Full. This falls under Section 3-311 of the Uniform Commercial Code. You can read more up on it below.

Call them and let them know of the mistake. Consider it an honest mistake. Inform them of the balance due, that you are cashing their check and billing them for the remainder. Most people will say, Oh, Sorry. Then cash the check and bill them for the remainder.

It depends on who you are paying and if they agreed to that in the first place.

No you cannot bill for the remaining balance. If you cash a check marked paid in full, that indicates you cashed a check that was the full amount of what was owed,or accepted it was the amount that was due,in full.

cross out " paid in full" write "balance past due" and the amount now past due, make a copy and file a claim in small claims court for the balance.
