a strange thing happened last week. i received a check delivered overnight thru ups. it was made out to me for $2000.00. i took it to the bank and they funds were not available. so i waited a few days and called the bank, they said the funds were available, so i went to cash it and they would not cash it because the account was changed or it may have been a counterfiet check? ever heard of a scam like this? and what could they get from it? |

its possible someone wanted your bank account info, which they would have gotten once they received the check back, then they could have transferred funds into their own account, chances are, the only reason you weren't able to is because the bank caught on ahead of time. |

I have heard of scams like this they can do what the other answers have said, or the bank would cash the check and the -check writer- would bounce the check and then the bank would send you a bill for the $2000.00 cause your the only one around and they want to collect. You can check more into through the bank, but looks like the bank saved you a hassle this round. |

You were lucky that the bank didn't allow you to cash the check finally. That was probably a scam. That comes from the U.K. or Nigeria where people send you supposed winnings that you ahve to pay a fee for, but it turns out the checks are counterfeit or no good.
Don't fall for any lotteries, scams or emails that have this idea.
There are a lot of these going around. There are evens ome from people claiming that they have found your name as a possible relative of a family that has been killed in a recent crash of some kind and are holding a large sum of money to be claimed.
Well, that's a scam. All they will do is ask for some money up front as 'expenses' and then you will never see a dime! |

I have not heard of this scam, but what happens is when and if you cash the check, your checking information is on the cancelled check that goes back to the issuer, then they have your info, they can easily access the account and wipe you out.
or in my case just let your ex do it for you! |

Count your blessings and report this to your local authorities. Getting involved in cashing that check would certainly end in tears...yours! |
