I have an odd situation my mom and dad aren't kicking me out but I cannot bare to live with my dad anymore, we aregue all the time and I just feel like he doesn't want me there. I'm only 19 so I don't have any credit really and I'm going to need to get a car. I know for sure my dad will not co-sign for me but him and my mom have really good credit. Would it be possible for my mom to co-sign without my dad knowing? I really would make the payments and not default I have a full time job and I'm responsible plus I have money saved for emergencies but i just don't know how else to get a car without credit unless she co-signs. How does this work will my dad even be aware and yes he does look at all the bills. As a co-signer are you given a copy of the bill?

When taking out a loan or co-signing for a loan both spouses have to sign.
You should ask your dad as an adult (no deviance or arguments) "Dad, do you think it would be a good idea if I moved out?"
Whatever he says, "I don't know, maybe, no, is that what you want to do?" or just stares at you...
"I was wondering if you could give me some pointers about finding a place and getting a car."
It will make him feel good that you came to him for advice and more apt to help you out.
Don't argue with your dad, try to figure out how to get along, one day he will be gone and you will really miss him. |

Your parents though married still have different social security numbers. She can co sign on her own using her own number. Now the real question is are you willing to cause an argument that has the potential of splitting you parents due to trust by having your mom go behind your fathers back and do this? |

Your mom could cosign for you and it is unlikely your dad would know. He will find out if he ever looks at a joint credit report of his and your mom's credit. It will be listed on your moms credit for a long time even after the car was paid off so I would expect that he would eventually find out. |

It can be made so that only the person to whom the car belongs gets the bills. If they default, then the co-signer would get the bills. |

I would try to buy a cheap car first with cash instead of signing yourself up for a monthly payment. Your only 19 and payments can be hard to keep up with, when you move out on your own. If you have no money to buy a car, use a bike and get a job close to where you live until you save it up. That's just my opinion, but it could save you in the long run.
Oh and don't use credit cards. |

If he ever pulls both credit reports (his and hers) then yes, he will know. One thing you have to be aware of: if something should happen where you can't make the payments (I know you think it won't, but it might) then your mother's credit will be ruined. A co-signer is basically someone who the lender can come after in the event the original lendee defaults on payments. And by the time they come after the co-signer their credit is already damaged.
I would first see if your mother might be able to purchase you a used, reliable car with cash, instead of getting a loan. You might be able to get one for between $4,000 and $6,500 (if she has the money for it). |

If you have a decent job, decent pay, and been there for 2+ years you prob can get the car loan yourself.
You need to talk to your dad and mom together. Bitching at him which I am guessing you are pissed at something, needs to get handled. Fighting obviously is not a working strategy for you. Change your strategy and you might get a better result.
