No you cant go to jail for unpaid debt unless its a legal payment. But what could happen eventually is the credit collector could take you to court to get their money in which case you can set up a payment plan. But they don't take you to court and you don't pay off the debt for a certain amount of years the debt becomes a "Charge Off" and it affects your credit. |

I doubt they would put you in jail, did you think about bankruptcy? They will send it to a collection agency and it will screw up your credit. If they put everyone who didnt pay their bills in jail there wouldnt be many free people in the world. |

I can bet on one thing, they wont sew you? I mean your not a piece of material are you? Sorry I could,nt resist. Anyway yes they can sue you to collect any money owed, they can garnish your wage,s, they can even garnish un-employment benefits, or even if you have any money coming your way from income tax, any-thing with your name,your social security number, whatever it take,s to collect money you owe they will take, and rightfully so, I mean if you owe money, pay up! But jail time no way! not unless you owe the IRS a large amount of money, or if you owe back child support. Hope I was helpful. |

No, they won't put you in jail for not being able to pay your debts. Debtor's prisons are something of the far distant past. Interest will accumulate though, so you'll have more to pay off when you get back on your feet. Talk to the places you owe, they might be willing to cut the interest down some.

well who do u owe? If its credit cards or like magazine bills or something small like that no i doubt it but like if u got a home business like avon and u owe money back then yes u need to pay it back. if u want contact me or whatever and let me know what u cant pay and i can tell u if they will take u to court or not |

It all depends on the debt...if you owe taxes or child support, then yes, they can throw you in jail. But if your piling up typical debt....credit cards, loans, etc...then no, they cannot throw you in jail.
Maybe you should consider filing bankruptcy. It would get your creditors off your back. |
