Cory and Brooke T | Credit Card? |
Hello. I got a question about credit card companys. Or why this is happening? My huband has had 3 loans. A truck loan which was a 3 yr loan that we paid of in 2. A personal line of credit that we paid on for 2 yrs that is paid off. And now he has one loan which is our house. He pays everything on time and is never late. Well I wanted him to apply for a credit card were I could put all our phone bill, internet, cell phone bill, power bills, insurance and ect on one thing where I could pay one bill than 10 small bills a month. Well the credit card compa denied him and I dont know why... They said that ·the reason "Too few accounts with sufficient satisfactory performance ". He got approved for our house loan in Sept. Noone signed with him for any of the loans he has had in the past nor did anone sign with him for our house. His credit score was a 654 when we had it checked for our house loan. Can anyone tell me why they would deny him for a credit card??? Thanks |

his credit score isnt great but it seems like he should have established enough credit by now since he had multiple loans & paid them off already... My score wasnt great but it was higher than his & i was denied from capital one so than i applied to Citi & they gave me 2 cards with higher limits than i was expecting!
so if you want to apply again i would goto Citi & apply for a card... i like the Premier Pass card
but if your denied again than you shouldnt apply for awhile until you really findout whats going on so you dont lower your score everytime they do a credit check
Good luck
(and treat your credit good!) |

They CC company is not saying that the credit is bad. It is saying that you do not have enough credit history established or currently open. Try more CC companies, however keep in mind that everytime that you apply they will do an inquiry. This will lower your credit score. |

His credit score is a little low, considering most banks like a minmal score of 600.
I suggest he checks his credit reports, with all 3 major credit bureau and see if there is anythig on his reports that is older than 6-8 years old. Depending on where you live the law says any credit items over 6-8 years old that are negative have to be removed.
When I checked my reports I found 11 items that were out of date and when I got them deleted my score went up over 100 points.
I'm sure if his score was 100 points higher he would have no problem getting any kind of credit. |

You probably were turned down because you have too little credit history. Two paid off loans and a mortgage wasn't enough for that particular credit card. Try applyng for one at your bank where you have a history.
Also, you might want to look into online banking and billpay thru your current checking account. Most large banks offer both free of charge. You can then set up recurring bills to be automatically paid every month. Using your own online banking, you can still change or cancel the payments right up to a couple days before the payment date. Even bills that have different amounts due every month, like the electric bill, can be schedule in advance of the due date.
It's a much better system than setting up a credit card for all those companies to automatically bill to. |

You will really have to ask them.
One thing I wanted to add is that it's a real bad idea to pay bills with credit cards. Many of the kinds of companies you mention have an auto pay program so it gets paid automatically one time a month. |

Apply for a different card. Some credit cards companies will not want to approve someone who doesn't have a history of credit cards. You mentioned that your husband has a good history of loans, I guess for the past 2 years or so, but you didn't mention him ever having credit cards.
With his history and credit score (which isn't great but should definately be good enough for a credit card) he should definately be able to get approved for one.
If he's never had one before, you may not be able to get approved for one with a very good interest rate, but if you pay off the balance every month that doesn't really matter. |

You should ask for a free credit report. There is a lot of information about this on the internet . A good place to start would be here :

His credit score is only good; it isn't great or really good, just good. That could be the reason. But they basically said that he doesn't have very many accounts open, which means your husband still needs to establish more credit history with more accounts. Yes, it sounds stupid when you just tried to open an account but they tell you that you need more in order to qualify for that one. Well, it just means that they have a higher standard compared to other credit card companies. Your husband should apply to a few more. But he has to be selective and with a few, because too many inquiries will bring his score down. |

It seems like the bank is saying that there are not enough accounts that have reported a good payment history. Now you explained the three loans your husband has but what about other cards? Were there any other previous credit card accounts that were delinquent or late in the past? This is what seems to be the problem: out of the total number accounts reporting not enough of them are in or have been in satisfactory standing. If this is incorrect I would suggest contacting the credit card company to speak with the credit analyst deptartment and have them explain. Also, call one of the credit bureaus and request a free credit report since you were denied credit. I believe you said the last time you checked was to get the home loan but you should consider getting a credit monitoring service that alerts you of changes to your credit report. |

The credit reporting agencies actually look at your net credit worth. It is better to pay off an account and leave the account open than it is to pay it off and close it. Here's an example: I have 3 cards, and let's say they have all been open around 3 years. All are current, open, and in good standing. If each card has roughly $10,000 credit limit, I have a "credit net worth" of $30,000 and I'm in good standing for the past however many months making payments. (Not taking into the house and car loans) If you have paid everything off and have no recent credit payment activity to base your credit worthiness on, you are more of a risk because they have less history to base a decision on. They may even look at it like, Why now do they need credit? |

Credit cards have become a necessity in society nowadays, you can't go anywhere without having to use one. That's why it's imperative to maintain a good<!--credit rating and use your credit card smart. Lots of credit card related question been asked here and yours just another one. Check out this website and it may answer your question,

After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online. Lots of credit card related questions are often being asked and yours is just another one. Credit cards are great to use as long as you control them-->They are useful, helpful, and make buying things a whole lot easier. But it's important to remember that people go into thousands of dollars of debt because of them, and the same thing could happen to you |

not sure, each credit card company has their own set of guidelines. I would suggest applying through your bank (such as bank of america, etc.) for a credit card, often times you have a better chance since you have a history of banking with them. Good luck!
One other thing to maybe consider is if he is the only one working and they see the house loan and all other bills in his name they may think his debt to income is too great, however, if he was able to qualify for a loan then it seems he has good credit. |

Try applying for a different card. Just be carfeful to watch for annual fees. And space out applications, too many credit inquiries can lower your score. Also depending on who you bank with, try there first. |

Sounds like there are too many open revolving accounts. The amounts due on the current accounts also are added up to calculate a percentage of credit limit available. If many accounts look close to their limit, the banks will assume you are having difficulty and deny you.
There are web sites that have multiple credit card offers for you to shop through. Perhaps you should check them out. Good Luck. |
