Credit Card Debt?
I have credit card debt in excess of $4000. Do the ads you see on TV for relieving one of credid card debt work? Or am I better suited to just pay it off?
Step 1. Stop using the card. Do not add to the debt.
Step 2. If more than one credit card--- you have 2 different options. A. make minimum payments on everything else and focus all your extra money on the card with the highest interest rate. When that one is paid off...hit the next hightest.
B. make minimum payments on all your cards and focus all your extra money on the card with the smallest balance. You will get a mental boost when you pay that card off and that encourages you to keep going.
3. Once all your credit cards are paid off.....never run them up again.
You can get really good advice from Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman.

The TV ads are scams. Do it yourself.

Those programs charge you money and ruin your credit. you can do this all on your own.

They are scams. You end up paying them as well as all or most of your debt even if they claim to be a non-profit organization. Switch to paying cash for everything, when your credit card bill comes, plan to pay at least twice the minimum amount. The reason is that you will be paying mostly finance charge and a pittance towards the principle and you end up paying them for 7 years or so.

You should look into getting a "consolidation" loan that would be used to pay off all these credit cards. The interest rate on that loan might very well be lower than what you're paying now.

First try to pay it yourself but if you are not able to manage your debts, you can always go for a credit counseling company. They can guide you in a better way as they are the expert in the field. More often they know your creditors, so they can also help to reduce your debts or interest rates.
Here is a credit counseling company named http://ezconsolidation.com for your reference.

You can do it yourself, but if you want to look into a service here's one to research.
