Credit Card Stolen, any recourse?
I had a credit card swiped from my room and used, two charges were for software and a people search, 4 gas station, 1 grocery store, the card has been reported and all charges were reversed and dismissed. There are only a handful of people who were in my room and that nosy and ballsy to swipe it. Can I call the software company and see what information they have on file? especially an email that may reveal the crook?

Do not worry, the CC company will do the investigation for you, there isn't much else you can do except to see who is dragged off in cuffs someday.
Sounds like you live in a dorm, watch for the swat team to break down a door or haul your roommate away, this should give you some idea of who it was.

Unfortunately, the software company will not likely be able to give you any information. However, I would recommend reporting this to the police if you have not done so already. They should be able to trace any paper trails. Or your credit company itself will likely take care of it.

Trust me, if it's possible to find the perpetrators, the credit card companies are the ones who are following up on it, since they want to recoup their losses.

But no, they won't share that information with you.

I agree with Zzarky's answer. Sounds like you're pretty peeved. It's tough to accept that not everyone, including friends, is trustworthy. Have to get over it though, take the lesson learned and move on.

You could call the software company and be honest.
Tell them that someone used your card, and you got credit, but you are curious to see what address or email was used on the account.
Be honest - they probably won't tell you, but it's worth a try.
This way you'll know which one of your friends never to trust again - ever.

You can call, but I don't believe they will tell you. Too much liability if you decide to take care of them yourself. If you think it could only be one of a few, just keep an eye on them.

Your recourse is a legal one. If you live in a dorm, you need to contact your campus security and file a police report. Have them investigate, and prosecute. What you are describing is a Felony larceny and fraud at a minimum.. There may also be Federal wire charges if done over the Internet.

Prophet 1102
They won't give it to you.

you can, however, they're unlikely to give you the info, seeing as you haven't suffered a loss...yet, if you file a *police report*, a detective from the force can and will try and find out who did it, and has the legal authority to obtain the info you speak of.

and usually, they are quite willing to share any substantial info with you - if you are polite and respectful to them, that is. :)
