Alex G | Credit Card for 18 year old? |
Hi, i am an 18 year old senior in high school. I would like to start building my credit by applying a secured credit card at the bank. I have saved up to $1200 right now from my under the table job. Do you think the bank would ask me what job i have?. what should i do? |

get the card solely for building credit, purchase and pay, purchase and pay. The bank will ask "who is your current employer" and you are free to say that you are just a student, the next question which allows for students to get cards is "what is your annual household income", not how much is in your account, where did you get it, ect. I am 20, pay only with credit for everything, and pay it off every month...and have a pristine 750+ score, as long as you truly are getting the card to build your credit and stay responsible with it, it's the best way to create and raise your score! |

Get the credit card but make sure that your parents monitor it. Keep it at home, not in your wallet. Use it only when you have money to back the purchase.
I was young and liked to shop. I bought lots of clothes etc. I have tons of credit card debt at the age of 25 and nothing to show for it except for a wardrobe that is currently out of style, as trends change every few months. It SUCKS!
Make sure you only stick with one card. It keeps everything under control. Also, you're young. Start saving for a house. Most people won't at your age. I wish I would've! See the big picture right now....everything you have now is once what you always wanted. Note all of the silly things you have. They were once what you always wanted. Really think about what you want 5 years from now. Set goals. Is what you're buying something that is going to deter you from your goal or set you back?
This is everything I'd say to myself if I could go back in time! I wish I could protect everyone from what I experienced but you're an 18 year old ADULT. You're old enough to make your own decisions. |

I WOULD SUGGEST YOU OPEN UP A BANK ACCOUNT FIRST AND USE A DEBIT CARD.
THEY HAVE NICE PACKAGES
I WOULD TRY SEEING HOW I MANAGE AN ACCOUNT BEFORE I START OBTAINING CREDIT BECAUSE DEBT IS CONTAGIOUS THESE DAYS. |

Credit card companies are quick to respond to the growing trend of Internet users by offering online credit card application. As you might have noticed, many credit card companies whether online or offline for that matter, announce they offer the best credit card online, even with instant approval if you apply for it on their website. This method allows the applicant to get approval within a few minutes after submitting the online application form at the company website. Although this isn’t truly instant credit card application, it definitely saves some time when compared to the traditional offline process. The approval process takes only a few minutes, but the credit card company will still need to manually mail you the physical card. This may take up to 10 days before you receive it.
It could take up to a month or two before you receive your credit card if you apply for one via the more tradition ways. You would have to visit the office of the card company personally or call up the customer service hotline to request for an application form to be mail to you. Then, once you have submitted your supporting documents you will need to wait for a reply as the company runs a check on your credit history.
The good thing about applying online for a credit card is that you know if you are approved for it or not within a fairly short time. Another advantage of filling in the application online is that it also allows you the opportunity to compare the cost of credit offered from a lot of different card companies.
There are certain limitations on who is eligible for an instant online credit card application approval. Most instant credit card application offers are targeted to people with good credit records. The competition on the credit market is so high today, that some companies are willing to include people with less than fantastic credit scores in order to get customers. The bottom line is that even if your credit history is not so good, you have the ability obtain an instantly approved credit card. So regardless to what your credit rating is, there is no reason not to use an instant credit card application.
Your credit card application will usually get approved instantly if you maintain a healthy and excellent credit history. However that does not mean that your application will be rejected if you credit history is less than perfect. With so much competition going around in the credit card industry, many companies are willing to take the risk and accept applicants with average credit history. Some of them even provide a card for those people with bad credit.

The bank will ask where you are employed if you want a credit card, however, just tell them, they aren't going to investigate whether or not you're getting paid under the table. Find a solid bank like Bank of America and get a starter credit card with a 500 dollar limit. Just make sure you pay it off at the end of each month, or even right away to be safer. |

http://credcards.noneto.com - try this one. I personally use their card.
It is also very good to build credit rating for first time credit card users. As I know it accepts everyone, even if a person has no credit and 0% interest rate for 18 months.

Their job isn't to ask what job you have. They can't ask that. If they do, you don't have to answer. Law states you don't need to explain where you got the money. You just go to the bank, give the money to deposit, and its done. You can even walk in with millions and nothing will happen. They cannot ask that, they are not cops. |

I'll ask the question why do you want a credit card? I would say without a doubt that an 18 year old should not have a credit card, you will get carried away too easily and spiral into a crippling debt. If you want a credit card to purchase stuff on the interwebs, then I would suggest getting a VISA debit card, these access your funds without the threat of going into debt with the functionality of a Credit Card.
Also, a credit card will not "build your credit", credit cards are a liability, not an asset, they decrease your net worth. |
