WCYB TV-5 | Credit Card question.? |
have a Sony Financial Services Card, (just like a MasterCard...)and I was wondering if I didn't buy anything on it for a couple of months, or years, would they charge me?
And, If you cancel a credit card, does it go against your credit? |

Charge you for what? The only charge would be an annual charge for having the card. If you keep the card with a ZERO balance open, it HELPS your credit score. The more credit that you have that youdon't use, the higher your score. |

Canceling a credit card does not go against your credit.
If a credit card does not have an annual fee, then there should be no other charges if you have no purchases on it.
Some cards have annual fees. |

I have seen some CC's that are charging a minimum fee each month even if your balance is zero. |

No--on cancelling the card
Call the company on the 1800 and ask if there service fees |

You should ring the company as some point of sale credit companies (like GE and others) charge a monthly account keeping fee. Sometimes this can be even if there is a zero balance but it's doubtful as this would disincent people to keep accounts open and it's costly for them to open new ones.
Canceling a credit card (assuming it's at your decision) will not count against you but rather in your favour if all is well with the card. The reason for this is that potential creditors look at your total POTENTIAL credit liability as well as what you actually owe when making decisions on whether to grant you credit. So...if you're not using it, cancel it...cheers |

they would only charge you if you have a annual fee but other than that they can not charge you also i suggest that you not close the account because it will not look good on your credit trust me i have cards that i wish i had not got in the first place but i was told not to close them besides the credit card issuer will close the account if it goes a certain amount of time without any usage in the future try to stay away from cards with the annual fee because its like your paying them to have the card even if you don't use it .good luck |

no to the first question, and it lowers your score alittle if you cancel one |

They can charge interest on an unpaid balance. If you have a zero balance and the contract has no monthly fees, then no. ( I keep a gold amex with no limit with a 0 balance and pay the monthly fee just to have it for emergencies and peac of mind. )
And no, it shoild not go against credit if you cancel in good standing. |

They could. Check your contract. No one here can answer that question for you. I had a friend who had a card just to start building credit. She only used it twice in one year, then paid it off immediately. Well, of course this hacks them off because they can't gouge you on finance charges. She got a nice piece of hate mail from them saying that they would charge her an annual fee if she didn't use the card more. Go figure ...
Generally, it's best to have about 3-5 open revolving accounts on your credit report. More than that, your score suffers, less than that, you're not quite established as far as history unless you've had the accounts for a very long time. Length of time holding the accounts definitely matters, as it gives potential creditors an idea of your patterns over time. If you have an account for, say, a year, then cancel it, your score will suffer. |

call your credit card for the first question the number is probably right on the back of the card...
don't cancel it!!! never cancel open credit. the open credit along side a longer credit history bumps up your score. don't use it just don't close it. unless there is an anual fee. |

most credit cards have an anuual fee, but the only way to know for sure about yours is to call them and find out!
As far as cancelation of a charge card, as long as you didn't have an outstanding balance, there is no way it can harm your credit score.
Hope this helped! |

If you cancel while applying for a loan - it is not a very good idea.
if you let your credit card idle for some years - it will di-activate itself but i'd rather cancel it (this is if you are not applying for any loans) |
