Terence C | Credit card charges what can you do to avoid them? |
why do some retailers charge a service charge when using a credit card as the transfer sometimes just takes hours |
|

Retailers are charged a percentage of each transaction by the credit card company. If you don't want to pay the fees for using a credit card, pay cash. |

It is against the Merchant agreement rules to charge a surcharge on a credit card transaction. It is also against the rules to specify a minimum amount in order to use a credit card.
Any merchant who does so risks being cancelled from their agreement to accept credit cards.
Merchants may offer a cash discount though. |

because they have to pay a fee to accept credit card payments |

Firstly its not the credit card company who make the charge, its actually Visa/MasterCard/Am ex who make the charge for the retailer to use their "facility" most shops include this type of fee in the prices they already charge so you don't notice it, if you pay in cash you can still technically.
Which is where the saying "how much for cash" because if you're cheeky enough ask the company for a discount if you pay by cash, it costs them nothing to accept cash |

retailers pay a service to the card provider for the service, so they are passing the fee on to u |

Discover and Amex are among the ones that charge the stores the most. That's why you see some stores that don't accept them.
I think that a store like walmart might pay 1% (due to volume), but I believe most stores get charged 2%.
Amex is higher
Discover takes a long time to pay and are higher but not as high as amex.

They charge you, because the banks charge them a fee or percentage every time they put a transaction through. It's like losing something like 3-5% of each purchase made, to the bank.
They're getting ripped...so they rip us. Trickle down. |

Any retailer who charges a service charge is supposed to tell you that. I always check my bill. I wouldn't use my card in that store anymore, so if I found myself out of cash, I would shop elsewhere. I would have no problem at all asking the retailer why he charges a service charge. If you pay your bill each month you shouldn't have to deal with an extra charge from anyone...shop or credit card company.
If the retailer doesn't give you a satisfactory answer, call your credit card company and ask them. They might not even know it. EDIT: Now I have had stores refuse a certain credit card because the cc company charges too much per sale, and sometimes doesn't reimburse the store in a timely manner. Most do not lose money on each transaction. They have already raised their prices to compensate, since people don't like to carry cash. |

You can avoid using credit at all cost... If you can't do that, then make sure you read the fine print before you buy. And if that's still not enough to discourage you, then put your credit card in a tuperware container, fill it with water, and freeze it. Then if you decide to use it, you have to wait for it to thaw out, and you have time to think before using it. NO impulse buying for sure then. |

because they have to pay the credit card company's a % of the sale, this is what they charge the business for using their equipement, but It also is ilegal for them to pass the service charges on to the customer, |

to cover the charge that merchants are required to pay to the credit card company when they accept your card
i don't think it's really legal, but i've seen it done in many places |

First Of All if you don,t have one now (DON,T EVEN BOTHER IT WILL GET YOU INTO MORE TROUBLE THEN YOU WANT) if you already have one or more then one, then you need to go to the only one that can and will help you pay them all and that is Jesus get your hart right with god repent of your sins ask his forgivness and tell him that your sorry for not using his money wisely believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and that he is alive and is soon to return Jesus is the only one who will help you but you must have faith that he will. |

Because they're losing money on every transaction they submit for reimbursement. You can avoid them by going to less financially unstable stores. |
