For the next 4 months, "pretend" that you already

I've found some good information here too...

All the best to you.

The credit card companies do not care. They will still charge you fees, intrest, and possibly take you to court. I know a baby is a huge change in your life but as far as debt goes it doesn't change anything.

Raymond: Shut up. No one will know how dumb you are if you don't speak.

cut the cards up
try to make at least twice the minimums if not more
quit living off money you don't have.
it's dumb and just another way companies rip us off.

not being mean--personal experience. my husband and i recently cut all three of our maxed out cards up and are working on paying them off. we will never have another credit card again.

EDIT: Raymond whatever acts as if everyone plans their children. accidents do happen, to teenagers, married couples and the like. just because you are in debt does not mean you're going to be a bad parent. i'd rather see a happy child wearing hand me downs than an emotionally neglected child wearing tommy.

It would have helped to be a sound financial position before someone got pregnant (you owe it to your child to not be drowning in debt before you even think about concieving it) but it's already too late for that.

I'm not sure exactly what your question is though. If you owe credit card debt, you have to pay it back no matter what- new baby or not. I would advise you to tighten your belt as much as possible (buy toys, baby furniture, baby clothes, etc all second hand or at garage sales and breast feed if at all possible because that's free baby food) Typically children get more expensive as they get older, so you need to knock that debt out of the way before the kid gets to a stage where you'll be paying for a new wardrobe every year, school supplies, extracurricular activies, expensive toys, etc. And cut up the credit cards as the last thing you can afford to do is add on any more debt.

Great, what we need are more financially negligent parents. Save money until you're financially secure, THEN have children. Is this so hard to understand?
