Use it only for things you can afford to pay for at the end of the month. If for some reason you can not make the entire balance payment at the end of the month make sure you pay at least the minimum payment or you will ruin your credit. Good luck and don't go crazy!! |

Just be responsible, make your payments on time, and don't pretend it's a cash machine. Remember, you will be required to pay back what you charge with interest. |

Best advice that I can give is to remember that anytime you use it, you are taking out a loan. Try to pay it off every month or at least a majority of it. Don't make late payments and stay well under you limit.
Credit cards are loans and not a way to supplement income. Best advice I can give. |

1. Before you apply for your first card, check your credit report. Pull a report from each of the three bureaus (you can do it for free at www.annualcreditreport.com) and make sure that you don't have anything already there that is fraudulent or inaccurate.
2. To build good credit, you need to stay vigilant on your credit reports. You get one for free every 12 months (2 per 12 months if you live in Georgia), use that privelidge.
3. For a lot of people, it is easier to be added to someone else's credit accounts to start off with. If you do that, though, make sure it is someone you trust. If they screw up, you are also responsible for the bill AND their irresponsibility can ruin your credit.
4. When you have a card, do not spend more than you can afford to pay off every month. Just because you have plastic does not mean that you can go out and buy whatever you want....not yet, anyway :)
5. Investigate credit laws and rules. www.ftc.gov. The FTC makes up the rules about credit. Learn them. You can also find information at the websites for each of the three major bureaus.

Be wise with your credit and build it slowly. No more than one inquiry every three months. |

If you are the type of person who pays your bills on time then I would suggest getting one. You need to start as soon as possible building your credit.
Pay your balance off as soon as possible. One personal piece of advice I can give is, when you are ready to get a different credit card do not close out the account of the old card, keep it open. Good luck building your credit. |

Reward credit cards reward you depending on the amount you spend on the credit card. Usually, you can collect rewards through 3 methods. One method involves earning cash back on the card, which is generally a certain percentage of each amount you spend. The next method involves giving points or any other type of token to the customers to accrue. They can then redeem these points for gifts like luggage, cosmetics and other goodies that the credit card company offers. Most of these reward schemes have alluring gifts and huge variety of selections. But the better option is to go for a cash back reward as it allows you to use the money any way you like. |

Small steps like paying your bills on time and using only part of the credit available to you. Also use your credit cards for making small payments regularly, so that it is reflected in your credit record. More tips available at http://www.acreditlibrary.com/buildcredit.html |

As you are 18 years old you can go for a credit card. Try to pay the bills on time otherwise it will lower your credit score.
Try to find out the best companies which suits you best. You can make some search on yahoo or google to find out some.

Without fail, always make every single payment on time. Many companies will now jack up your interest rate to horribly high numbers if you are late on even a single payment. For the same reason, never ever go over your credit limit.
Initially, don't buy anything that you cannot pay off entirely when the monthly bill becomes due. And pay off that entire balance each and every month.
Make sure you understand all the fees, if any. Some cards will charge an annual fee, others will not. Most charge fees for making cash advances, or balance transfers, or for late charges or being over the limit.
Shop around for the best deal, especially on the interest rate.
If you are responsible with your credit, you will soon be given credit limit increases, and other creditors will offer you credit with better terms (lower interest rates, no annual fees, etc.) If you are irresponsible with your credit, it can ruin you financially for years. |

be aware of the interest rate
dont use more than 50% of the limit(it will lower your credit score even if you pay it off)
dont max it out
cash advances through the card have higher fees and interest
be careful when using it to buy stuff online
their customer service should help with any/all problems you may have |

i used to work for citigroup as an account manager and my first thought is dont get one! but if you must make sure that you pay the full balance every month as soon as you get the bill to avoid interest that is the best way to go. its nothing but a trap so be careful but if you do like i said and pay it in full every month itll at least look good on your credit bureau report. good luck and read your terms and conditions very carefully! |
