I had this happen, and yes the transaction did go through but the card company charged me a fee for going over my limit.

ssmesq
Usually, if you've been paying regularly. Then you get a fee for going over your limit added to your card.

Jesse Rocks
It can....and you will probably be charged an over limit fee.

You can call the credit card company and ask that your limit be raised, but if you're that much in debt, you should be leaving the card at home and getting that balance paid down.

Depends on the company. But there are over the limit fees that are wicked and can change your interest rate dramatically!

J'adore
omg don't do that. the over the limit fee's are ridiculous, and it will leave a negative mark on your credit... plus your interest rate will most likely go up a lot... that's stupid. Don't abuse credit cards....

Its depends on the card...many will deny it..but if it goes through then you are charged around 30.00 for over the limit fee...so is it worth it...~

Destin2be
I depends on your plan

Most likely if your starting out, No. Thats why the limit is there. It will no go through unless you make payments on your credit card, then that amount of money will be available for use again.

No, the transaction will not go through. In fact, the credit card company SHOULD contact you about the matter.

If you reached your limit you can go over it and the transaction will go through. But, the credit card company will tack on a hefty fee.

Try this: Call Customer Service (the number is on the back of your card). Tell them that you want to increase your credit amount. Most credit card companies want you to charge and I have NEVER heard a company refuse this. The increase is usually fairly quick.

You can even call Customer Service (if you do not want a higher limit) and explain the situation. If they aren't a jerk, they will probably work with you.

It might go through, but they will charge you really high over the limit fees, so be cautious.

If your credit card is checked for authorization by the merchant, your purchase may be denied. Credit limits are usually the result of payment history, highest purchase point, and credit history in the community.
