Two stores where I live have signs up that say they won't accept a credit card purchase if amount is under 3.00. Is this legal? This is Alabama.

Just FYI...

Both Visa and MasterCard state that a merchant cannot set a limit on the size of the purchase.

Here is the official policy of Visa: вЂњVisa merchants are not permitted to establish minimum transaction amounts, even on sale items. Imposing minimum or maximum purchase amounts is a violation.вЂќ

And here is MasterCard's: вЂњA merchant must not require, or post signs indicating that it requires, a minimum or maximum transaction amount to accept a valid MasterCard card.вЂќ

yes most places will not take credit cards under 3-5 dollars because they have to pay for each time a person uses a credit card they are charged a fee

Yes, any store can refuse a credit card unless a minimum purchase. In most states, it is illegal to charge more for using a credit card than cash.

In Massachusetts, a lot of convenience stores wont accept credit card if it's under $10.

There's a gas station down the street from me where the minimum purchase for credit cards is $20, and for debit cards is $10.
