Credit card transaction question?
I purchased a doll for my daughter on October 23rd. I wanted to use my debit card to pay for it but the store only took credit cards, so they ran it through as a credit card.

I never thought about it again, just assuming it was taken out of my account.

But I just checked my bank account and I see that the transaction was processed today ... almost 2 months later.

I'm just curious ... is there a limit on how much time a business can wait before sending in the transaction information?

To the best of my knowledge it's 3 days. Why don't you challenge it through your bank?

The reason I say 3 days is cause my brother works for a bank and told me one time that if I pay for gas at the pump and press credit not debt they only have 3 days to collect funds or they will not be able to.

Yes theres is a limit and that limit is usually a year. This happened to me as well. I purchased textbooks in febuaray the transaction didnt processed till june or so. I called my credit card company and they said that stores have up to a year to process your transaction. If you want to make sure just call your bank/ credit card company.

I am not sure but you should be able to call the bank your card is with and they should be able to tell you. Take care.

will if you use your debit card as a credit card, i know that it usually takes longer to get process and posted on my account....if it's a small store than probably they waited to get enough to process it

Usually a year. But be weary if it happens again! My husband made a large transaction once and after 4 months it still hadn't went through, so he called the place and they said not to worry, it must've been a mistake and didn't go through and probably wouldn't if it hadn't by now. So he went to the bank and they told him that it would be fine to go ahead and spend that money. So he did, and a WEEK later it went through and it caused him to overdraw! The bank refunded his overdraft fee and the place paid for it too! so he ended up even better off!!

Actually, I don't think there is a time limit. You used the Visa/Mastercard side of your debit card. Usually, for Visa transactions, my credit union will "hold" that amount of money from my account for about 5 days. The merchant usually submits the amount within 3 days and the money is removed from my account and the transaction appears on my statement. There are times that the merchant does not submit the transaction in a timely manner and after the initial hold days, the money is deposited back into my account. If the merchant submits the transaction 3 months later, the money comes directly out of your account.

Just remember that when you use the credit card side of your debit card to check the transaction to make sure it has cleared your account. Also remember, unlike the debit side, when you use the credit side, it is not automatic.
