My first card was with Capital One I had no prior credit history. Got a limit of 300 dollars horribly high interest rate but what I liked was no annual fee because any card I would have gotten would have had a high rate.

try getting a co-signer it will build your credit and help creditors even look your way

Try joining a bank, that helps a lot or better yet a Credit Union before applying for a credit card

Get gas station cards...easy, but follow this rule:

Once you have the card, get X $$ in gas, put X $$ in cash aside to pay the bill when it comes.
PAY THE BILL BEFORE IT IS DUE!
You will establish credit in 6 months, then get a store card (not sears - need A+ credit, get Home Depot, Mervyn's, JC Penny instead) DO THE SAME THING Charge $1, put $1 cash aside. PAY BEFORE DUE!
In about a year, you can get a Visa M/C.

NEVER Charge what you can't pay off, pay on time (NEVER LATE), and your credit score will be above 800 in no time.

Then the free cards come in the mail.

NEVER ACCEPT A CREDIT CARD WITH AN ANNUAL FEE!

My girlfriend got a credit card from Capital One with no credit history. She only got a 500 dollar limit, but that will go up after a year or so of good credit history.

Get approved in a few minutes. Most likely it will only be 500 bucks, but that is fine. I'm assuming you are young and dont have much money anyways! Just be smart about paying your bills.

My first card was a JC Penney card. Department Store Cards are excellent for establishing credit. They don't give great rates, but if you buy a pack of socks (or something comparable) every month, you'll slowly build credit to the point where credit card offers just come pouring in.

Trust me on this one.

I got a student card when I was 18, didn't need co-signer or anything. a gas or store credit card will accept you,.

squirrely
Most companies will approve you so long as you are 18 and older, you just won't have much of a credit limit (probably 200-500$ to start out with), and the interest rates might be pretty bad.
You've got to start somewhere though!

If you can't get one of those, some banks offer secured credit cards, where you have to open a savings account with them and your credit limit is equal to whatever you put in your savings account.

capital one, but the interest rates are BAD. Try to become a co-user on someone elses account. This builds your credit without you actually appling for one.

You can get a capital one credit card for people with no or limited credit. They are designed for people like you who are new to credit. Just look for the "limited credit ok" ones.

I would recommend opening up a credit card account only on
the basis that what you spend you can put towards a credit card. Interest rates can either destory you or make it easier on you. For example my (when it was) Meier and Frank store credit card was i believe at like 11 something interest for the first couple of months. Then it jumped to 20 percent. So I quickly got rid of that card.
Another awesome way is getting a cell phone that requires your credit to be ran. With Sprint they run your credit to see how good it is and I was able to get 5 lines due to me paying
on time.

Department store cards are usually easier than bank cards like Visa because they hope to get additional sales, not just interest.
