Credit experts, please help me out on this one?
Hey everyone, can I please have your honest opinion? Here's what's up, I want to buy a guitar with a credit card, only problem is my current card does not cover. If I get a new card and charge the guitar on there, and then cancel it later on will it affect my score. This is my dream guitar, this is it for me, I want this guitar so badly. The guitar cost $850.00, but trust me it's very worth it. I don't know what to do, please everyone help me. The card I'm considering is a Visa Platinum and its for $1,000 limit. The only reason I want to charge it on a guitar is I have no other choice, I have agood score and for some reason I got denied for loans. On top of that, its not that easy to save up that money fast. Any tips. Please no rude answers.

If you get a new credit card, I wouldnt cancel it, if there isn't an anual payment on it and you are SURE you wont ever use it again, cut it. closing the account wouldnt help, but if your credit to debt ratio is good, it will help your score.

in terms of the guitar... you said its not that easy to save up the money fast... are you sure you will be able to pay it off? I usually dont get anything on my credit card unless I KNOW i can pay it off within a month, but for others its can be more.

Just make sure you can pay it off and ... go ahead and get the credit card. But I really wouldnt close the account if there are no annual fees. Hope this helps.

well, how long have you had this credit card? and also, if you are under 21, then your limit will not be very much. if you are young, that could be a reason that they are denying your loan application, but keep in mind, that every time you get denied, that brings your credit score down a little wee bit. have you thought of asking the place you are buying the guitar if you can make monthly payments? that way you wouldn't be getting interest added on if you are just dealing with the person directly. $850 is a lot for a guitar, and i understand that it is your dream guitar, so i think you should go for it if any way possible. but then again, if your card is $1000 why not just use the card for it? you can pay it off and it will be fine with your credit score. if you don't keep a balance, or a small one, it will help your credit more than closing it. i hope i helped:)

Dont give anyone on here any of your personal information or that great credit u have will be no more....Take the advice of the response. Its great advice. If you foresee any potential problems, I would just simply save up or shop around. If all is well and your job is stable. Go for it. Unfortunately, in this country most things require good credit scores.

Are you applying for a loan where you bank? Or better yet at a Credit Union where you might do business? These are the people that know a little of your financial history and most times will have a more resonable charges. If you could come up with a 30% down payment maybe the guitar owner might finance you? Probably not, they want the money. Applying for a credit card and almost maxing it out is not a good idea.

You can visit http://www.cashguru.info and find very useful tips and several articles on credit related matters.

If I were you I'd be finding out why you get turned down for loans with a good credit score....Ask the music store if financing is available...If you can get a no interest credit card for the first year of even 6 months that might help.

Well here is some reality..

You said you got denied for loans. When you got denied did they give you the reasons why? You probably should work on fixing those before you apply for another credit card. The chances are that if you got denied for a loan(depending on what type), you probably will be declined for a new credit card. Now if you are able to get the other credit card, DO NOT close it. This will actually be bad for your score.

Yes you do have other choices.
1. Have you called your current credit card company and asked them to increase your limit?
2. Save the money to pay for it all, or at least enough so you can pay the difference on your current credit card. Yes this will take longer, but it will make your Dream Guitar more so because you actually have it paid off.
3. Does the shop have a layaway program? If so this is also something you might want to look into.

If you absolutely don't have the willpower to wait and save the money, the $1000 credit card isn't a horrible choice. At least it caps the amount that you can spend. But you have to make all payments on time, and pay ahead whenever you can - never charging anything else. At least you will have an asset that is worth something if you are unable to make the payments. If nothing else you could resell the guitar and get some money back to pay off the card.
