liltammy1988 | Credit report wrong? |
the day after my 18th b-day(feb ,10 ,06) i tried to start a sprint account, but the credit check kept coming back saying that i had once had a write off with them, when thats impossible, because u cant get a phone in your name until ur 18,and i had never even had a cell phone before then period. this happened twice then they kept sending my mail saying it too and that if i opened an account it couldnt be a regular one. who should i go to ,to fix this mistake on my credit that ive never used |

One of two things has happened. Either someone has stolen your ID and applied for Sprint service under your name, or (most likely) the credit reporting agency placed someone with a similar name to your account.
Either way, this is a simple problem to fix, IF Sprint want's to cooperate and help you out. Follow these instructions and you will either get your credit fixed, or you will have an awsome chance of winning a lawsuit against them.
You first need to know exactly who placed the report to your credit history. You need to get a copy of your credit reports, so go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and get it (for free, no charge or gimmics!)
Contact the person who listed this. It could have been Sprint, but most likely it's a collection agency. Inform them that it was not your account, and see if they can get this fixed immediately. I'm going to bet this won't work though. They will either stonewall you, or (if you are talking to Sprint) they won't be able to find your records.
Next, send a certified letter to each of the credit reporting agencies listing this account. Tell them you are disputing this item and want an investigation.
Send another letter to Sprint/Collection Agent and demand that they "validate" the debt. That means the MUST produce evidence that this is your debt. That includes copies of contracts, bills, receipts, and everything used to calculate what they claim you owe. They MUST supply this information within 30 days.
If they don't supply this info, then send another letter to the credit reporting agency saying that they are posting unvalidated information to your account.
If this information is still not removed from your history, then you have grounds to sue them for $1000 for violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This is a simple small claims court suit, and you don't need a lawyer. If you have followed all of these procedures, and have copies of the mail return receipts, they don't have any defense against it.
Sprint and AT&T are terrible about these issues....many times you have to get rough to get it resolved.
Feel free to contact me if you need more help or advice. |

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com and pull your free reports. Check each for any inaccuracies and contact them individually with your disputes. |

Actually all that you have to do it submit a letter to the collection company. I would send it certified with return receipt for proof of when they received it. They then have 30 days to respond to you, or they HAVE to remove this from your credit. This is in the Fair Credit Reporting Act rules. Now further down the road if they can prove this is yours then they can add it back again. |

That is very possible, you should get a copy of your credit report then dispute anything htat is inaccurate like this. Most places like Experian etc have dispute forms right on their website. |

Apparently someone has been using your social security number. What you need to do is get a copy of your credit report from all bureaus. They would have previous addresses and other info that may help you figure out whos been using your number. After you recieve them disput everything thats negative or anything that dont belongs to you. I have a friend that turned 18 and found out she had excellent credit cause someone had been using her number. Credit is very important .
Good luck |

Call Sprint customer service to get your credit straightened out. There has been a mix up in which you are being confused with someone who has the same name as you, or your SSN has been used by someone else to open an account. |

Transunion, Experian, and Equifax are ther three credit bureaus. Contact them all. Someone has fraudulently used your identity, it has happened to me twice THIS YEAR. Dispute it, and it will be removed. You can do this yourself.

http://www.transunion.com/
http://www.equifax.com/
Do it now!! It is not difficult. |

You should definitely check your credit and dispute the problem. When someone (like in your case, Sprint) hits your credit and then says there is a problem, you should ask them which credit agency they used - example, Transunion, Experion, etc. - get the credit agency's phone number, and give them a call. I believe you have 60 days to dispute the issue. |

you should be able to dispute this problem with the credit bureau. I've done it before and they took it off my credit report. |

Sounds like identity theft. Check your credit report by going on line and dispute any discrepancies. At the end of your credit report it will tell you how to go about doing this. Also do this as soon as possible. You are too young to have credit problems before you even start to live. |
