Sickofmyjob | Debit Card Disaster!,... HEEEEEEELP!? |
ok, Here's the thing. While on vaccation My husband bought a ticket with is Visa Debit Card. The clerk made a mistake with the flightplan and told us she would cancel right away. Then she printed the right ticket. Charging us again. Later we find out The first transaction was not cancelled. We called the bank to cancell the transactions (which was really hard since we were on vaccation) because we didn't trust the clerk who said she had indeed canceld the transaction. Anyhow, we get the money from both tickets refunded. Now that means we didn't pay for the right one either. We decide to pay for it in cash since we have the ticket already and can't afford to loose our seats during buisy season. Anyhow. Everything seems fine until 2 months later were back home, using the card, and come time to pay the rent. We're out of money. ( Our check bounced!!). After Investigation we find out : WE BOUGHT ANOTHER TICKET!!. We got charged 2 months later!!
Is this credit card fraud?? WHAT DO I DO? |

The above is one reason that transactions such as airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals etc should be put on a credit card and not a debit card. Had the above snafu happened using a credit card, the transaction(s) could be disputed and the card company would do the legwork AND during the investigation those charges would not be on your card.
Debit cards are great, I use mine all the time for most transactions but some transactions are better done on a credit card even if I have the cash (which I use to pay the bill as soon as it comes) |

It is not fraud, but it is an error. The airline didn't cancel the authorizations after all, apparently. Yes, you should try to work this out with the airline, but in the meantime, go to your bank NOW.
Take this situation to your local bank branch manager. Hopefully you have the receipts for all this.....the one showing you paying cash for the ticket you ended up using, especially, but even if you don't, go anyway.
Your bank can issue "provisional credit" to your account for the two tickets you were charged while they investigate the situation with the airline. They'll likely send you a statement to sign, swearing you received no benefit for the money you were charged.
Your local branch manager *might* be kind enough to refund any overdraft charges if you smile nicely while explaining how this was through no fault of your own, if he/she is so inclined. |

Call your bank and then call the airlines! Do you still have your stub from airlines....???
Good luck! |

I would call the company, and have them look up who the rep was that charged your card the first couple times, the clerk could have kept your information and ran it again. The clerk could be getting some sort of bonus or meeting a sales goal, and charging your card for it.
I would also let your bank know to call you whenever a transaction or debit is posted to the card. They can do this to verify you did make the transaction. If the card is with your banking institution they should be able to do this with no problem at all.
I have known friends that this happened to, they made a charge and then somehow the same charge came up again in the future. The person who ran the first payment kept the card information in those cases.
There is a paper trail for everything, when they run something and something prints out it really depends on the security policies of that company to block the entire card number from printing. This is 2007, and they should only have the last few digits print, but as well all know, anything can happen. |

Sounds like borderline of honest mistake and confusion,
take it to your bank, hopefully you kept paid in cash receipt,
they should be able to figure it out, and refund your bounced fees since you did not authorize the transaction. . |

Once you authorize the card a company has up until 90 days to put through the transaction. And because you DID give the card to this company, the bank won't be able to help much, you'll have to deal directly with the company. Get copies of your bank statements, including (if they will provide to you) copies of the authorizations. Then call the company with all the dates and specifics and see what the end result is. IF at that point they are not willing to work with you, then you can report it to your bank, because the company is breaking your original agreement and they may be able to initiate an dispute on your behalf. |

When you say you found out later are you refering to later that day or later that month? You indicate that they actually did cancel the transactions becuase you state that you were refunded for both tickets and that you didn't want to loose seats so you paid again.
Refunds do not process in a timely manner, they can take days or weeks to show up in your account. You were in such a hurry to make sure it happened fast you didn't consider the fact that the clerk did her job and you were not being paitent. You need to call the airline and prove to them that you purchased the ticket with cash and that they have double charged you. I guarantee that according to their records they didn't charge you at all and they are trying to make that right on their end. They can recharge you at anytime assuming you took the flight...otherwise people would buy tickets and tell the bank not to pay and the airline would have no recourse. |
