Use the debit card that your bank supplies. It will help you build you credit and you can't overspend with it. You can only spend up to what you have in your checking account. |

get a debit card with a visa logo on it if you can , If you have no credit ask a banker at your bank to help you decide how to go about building your credit.
Good Luck |

Hey!
How young you are? - Don't apply for a credit card when you are very young. First you have to 'learn' how to handle money. That's very important for your future life.
Take a Debit Card from your bank. So you are only able to spend the money you have in your account. And not more!
Credit Cards are 'dangerous' and can ruin your whole life.
Be careful and good luck.

'~Hi Irene~',
I have had my debit card forever, this way when I use it I know it comes right outta my checking account as long as I remember to write it in. At the same time I can use it a any ATM (but usually there's a fee ) unless it's at my own bank. I never over spend. I'd say you should get a bank debit card with a visa or master on it. You can use at restraunts, book stores, shoes or anything you want. It comes right out of checking account, I have never been over my limit or over drawn.
Have a good night. :0)
Additional Details: Credit cards are not a good idea to build credit as the fees & add fees if you don't pay on time add up.. If you have a telephone company, electric bill, car insurance etc. these will work as you pay monthly & usually on time as you build your credit. If you get a credit card the only time to use it would be for a emergency then be sure to pay it off right away. |

Actually when you open a checking or savings account you are given the opportunity for a free debt card. This in no way will help your credit score. This just gives you the flexability to make purchases at stores without hand writing a check. To build credit you need to start with a small credit card that you open, use periodically, and pay it off each month. Two of the most common for people with limited credit is Discover and Providian.
If you are using your debt card at a store and they ask credit or debt always say credit...this is confusing but if you use the card as a debt they will ask for a pin number, this will cause the bank to charge you a fee. The only time you use a debt card and a debt is in an ATM machine because their is no choice. |

An ATM can only be used at your banks ATM machine. You may use it at other banks but they will charge you for it. A debit card can be used at both the ATM machine and also at stores, online etc.....
You might be interested in the Visa Debit Card which is a renewable prepaid Visa debit card with Credit Builder. if you are intersted in learning more or applying for the debit card follow the link below. |

Neither. Only lines of credit build credit not DEBIT cards or ATM cards....even if they have the VISA LOGO.
I worked at BofA, and giving a person a Visa Check Card would do NOTHING to their credit.
The point is that YOU'RE NOT BORROWING MONEY.
When you borrow money like student loans, credit cards, mortgages, auto loans, etc that's when the Creditor (person who lends you the money) will report your On Time/Lateness to the 3 credit Bureaus.
Banks may offer PrePaid Credit Cards which will allow you to build credit, but it's better to get the regular credit card. |

An ATM card-at least at my bank-only accesses the funds you have on deposit. A credit card allows you to buy now and pay later. IF you make timely monthly payments and pay all of--or more than just the interest-you can build up a credit rating quite soon. But remember to ALWAYS pay early so you are TIMELY. Good luck. |
