Depositing a check?
I just got my first paycheck and I have no idea how to cash it or deposit it... whatever it's called.
I opened a checking account a couple weeks ago, I want to go to the bank monday morning, can I use those machine things? how do I do it? would it be less complicated to go into the bank and ask them to put it in my account? do I need to fill something out before I do it?

I use USbank... if that helps?
Additional Details
can I deposit some and keep some in the same check?

Congratulations on receiving your first paycheck!

Take the check to the bank and talk to bank representative that sits at a desk (the tellers may be too busy). Let the person know that you are new to banking and just opened a checking account. Write down any questions you have before you go to the bank.

I can tell you this:

- You do need to complete a short deposit slip when making a deposit.

- You will need to sign the back of your check (let the bank show you where to sign) and write your checking account number below your signature. I then always write "For Deposit Only" below the account number.

- You hand the deposit slip and check to the teller (or you can go through the drive-thru window).

- The teller will process the deposit and give you a receipt.

If you want to make a deposit through an ATM machine, you will need to request an ATM card from your bank.

You may also want to ask your employer if your employer offers direct-deposit of paychecks. If so, you can request to have your pay deposited electronically into your checking account. This means you will never have to make trips to the bank to deposit paychecks. To setup direct-deposit, I believe your employer will provide you with the form you need to complete. Then bring the form to your bank. You can ask your employer and/or bank to be sure of the process.

Unless you have a debit/check/ATM card from this bank, it is better to take it into the bank, and fill out a deposit slip if you are depositing this check, or take it to the counter if you are just cashing this check. They should have explained this when you opened your account.

When you opened your checking account, you should have received deposit slips. Sign the back of the check and fill out the deposit slip and then take both to the bank.

You can also just sign the back and take it to the bank and cash it.

on the back of the check at the top is where you sign your name, do not print, and make sure to use a pen.
Use a deposit slip given by the bank if you are interested in putting it into your account otherwise they will cash the whole check for you.
It would be best if you go inside to a teller until you get the hang of it.
Good Luck

Did you get any Deposit Slips or Checks?
if not you have to go inside and get a deposit slip or you can go to the drive up and ask for a deposit slip , fill it out and if you don't know how the 1st time I would go in and have them show you how to do it right.
If you deposit it in the ATM it may take 24 hours for the bank to credit to your account.
Make sure you keep track of what you deposit and how much you debit out or take out of the ATM and subtract any fees.
Most banks will give you a free bank register so you can keep track of your money. It is important to do this and to balance out your account so they do charge you over draft fees which can be up to $35.00 every time you have 1 overdraft.
Keep proper account of your account will build good credit.
Writing or over debiting checking accounts and not being able to pay is a felony.
Sometimes if you employer offers it you can ask for direct deposit , which is where they send your check directly to the bank and they give you a stub that tells you how much you got.
This is much easier.
You can also have your bank set up a direct deposit to a savings account from your checking account, even if it is $15.00 a week just so you establish a habit of saving.

If you order checks I always recommend duplicate checks with carbons so you can keep track of where you wrote the check out to or what bills you paid.
Now that I am older and have more bills, I use Quicken to keep track of my checking account online.
you can also sign up through your bank to view your account online.
Sometimes it takes a few days for a check or debit to clear the bank so you have to account for outstanding transactions, which is why it is good to use a transaction log.

good, luck and remember it is very important to keep track of where your money goes and learning to stay on a budget now will help you in the future.

IF you have a debit card with the bank then you can use the machine thing(ATM MACHINE) those are simple in that the instructions are right there for you.

If you want to deposit some and then get cash back you need to go in to the bank and see a teller. they will help you. You will need a deposit slip, if you do not already have one they will help you with that too. Make sure you have some ID, that will make it easier to.

Although it is possible to do it through the ATM, I would go into the bank the first few times to deposit. You are able to get cash back and deposit at the same time. You just need to fill out the deposit slip with the cash back line filled out as well. So if you have a one hundred dollar check and you want fifty, you put the full amount on the check line, you put one hundred in the subtotal area, and then you put fifty less cash in the less cash line, after that you put 50 in the total area. Make sure and sign for the cash back. Hope this helps!

You should go into the bank to experience depositing there first. Before you stand in line for a teller, go to the table with the deposit slips on it. Just fill in what you know, then go to the teller. She/he will help you from there. Depositing at an ATM is harder.

Menelas
It's pretty simple.

Just drive up to the teller, or if you want, you can go inside the bank and ask them to cash the check, or either put the money on your bank account.

A checking account, basically allows you to cash checks.
A bank account, basically allows you to withdraw, and deposit money.
A savings account, basically is an account where you save your retirement money.
